In the past 3 months, DDR2 RAM has mor than doubled in price? Can someone explain why?

Today, I was lookin at ram and wondering the same thing. Almost $100 for 4gg! Isnt it always the same though? When ddr2 first came out it was really expensive then got cheaper and ddr became expensive. I guess it might be because they arnt making as much of it? I really dont know. DVD drives too. They went up around $10.

i read somewhere that due to increased demand, the supply of ddr2 chips has gotten low, and thusly prices have been raised. on the + side, ddr3 has gone down in price

Someone was posting a comment about this a while back and one of the people who replied (can't remember who) posted a nice graph that showed sales of DDR2 compared to DDR3 and DDR3 has either passed DDR2 or will be passing it very shortly. I think that's what is driving the prices up... they just aren't selling as much of it. The good news is that DDR3 prices are coming down.

Manufacturing process is shifting to ddr3. It happens with every new memory generation. Out with old, in with the new.
