I'm currently running 2GB (2x1GB) of Buffalo Firestix DDR2 800 RAM. They don't seem to make this RAM anymore, and I'm looking to upgrade to 4GB to run Windows 7 64B.
__________________Is it safe to get another set of 2x1GB RAM as long as they 2 sticks are in corresponding mem slots w/each other? Or is it safer to just get all new RAM? TIA for any help. *edit: This is my current RAM. http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820150054

Yes, you can do this, but it can cause problems when overclocking, due to different ICs needing more or less voltage for the same timings/clock speeds.
You can run it safely (I'm using 4GB of Geil Black Dragon RAM alongside my OCZ Blades just now) but it's not so good for overclocking, like I said. Other than that, there are no negative aspects. Oh, I should mention that on Socket 775, more RAM sticks put more strain on the NorthBridge, so it can hurt an overclock, or need more NB volts to compensate.

That being said, it would be hard to find a matching set without paying too much for it. You would be better of getting 2x2GB.

I don't really plan on overclocking anymore. Just use this PC as a daily driver and on/off gaming when I'm bored. Everything will remain at standard clock speeds.
__________________Assuming I don't ever OC anything, getting a second set of 2x1GB DDR2 800 RAM will be just fine? Yea, when I was into the whole OC'ing thing, they were definitely awesome. Very stable at high clock speeds. Not really into it anymore as I don't put a lot of strain on the pc anymore.

![]() You will still be able to overclock, but it'd be more difficult.

You can get any pair of DDR2 to add to it. It will just run both at the lowest speeds. But just OC them both to the same point, and you're good to go.
