Default intel VID

ok so my friend has a 920DO chip with a stock VID of 0.94v. (yes it was cherry picked <<)

what he wants to know is if it is ok to put 1.375volts through it (4.4 on water) since the intel spec states the maximum VID of the DO is 1.375.

what i think he is getting at is because he has a low VID chip, does this mean it can or can't handle high voltages.

and also what is the max voltage for the DO for 24/7 on water

it all depends. different chips behave differently with extra voltage. just cause it has a low VID doesn't mean it'll handle a lot of volts well (usually it does though). The low VID just means that it'll handle the frequency at a lower voltage, not that the safe voltage range is lower

Just always keep in mind that the more voltage, the higher the risk you run of binning it

ok so what is generally the accepeted max voltage for 24/7?

lets say he wants the chip to last at least 2 years

it all depends on the chip. some can handle a lot more voltage.
he just needs to check his overclock every couple months for stability and back off the voltage if it's no longer stable.

otherwise. if he doesn't want to, the max would be what the intel specs say is the max

yes but my point is since he IS stable a the moment, will running 1.375 be ok for 24/7 for 2 years? or will the chip degrade quickly

As long as the distance to TjMax is safe (core temps), and it is stable, yes, imo it does mean that.

Mine has a 1.08v VID, I think my batch tends to as well, I am running 1.435v through it at 4431 MHz, but the hottest core only gets to ~70c at 100% load in LinX, so as long as there is not some hidden instability, I highly doubt it it shortens the i7's life span.

There was still plenty of room to lower that vCore, but I have to do it over because of my mobo RMA.

thanks mate, how long you been running it with that vcore?

Max Vcore is whatever the motherboard maxes out at ... unless of course you Vmod it ...
