Default Which RAM for i9? 1600, 1866, 2000, or higher?

I am about to build an i7 system with 12GB of RAM (video editing), but plan on upgrading to an i9 later. I don't want to have to upgrade the memory.

What is the maximum memory speed that I can use with i9?
The Corsair Dominator GT 1600 looks pretty sweet with the 7-7-7-20 timings, but is 1600 enough? Won't I need 2000 or higher to get the most out of an overclocked i9?

Thanks.

1600 mhz with CAS7 or 2000mhz cas 9 or lower will be perfect.

But that's good for the i7 OC. Shouldn't the i9 be able to use faster RAM, especially when OC'd? I have to future proof this system, 12GB of RAM is expensive, only want to do it once for at least the next 5 years....

The speculation about the i9 is that it is going to be introduced as an Extreme Edition only. With this being the case, the multiplier will be unlocked so your overclock will be virtually independent of your memory.

1600MHz is plenty, unless you really want more. Beyond this, it would be more for the novelty than anything else. Real world performance would only vary a small amount.

Also, look into the OCZ Platinums. I have them and they're great. 1600MHz, 7-7-7-16-1T. Can't beat them without spending a fortune.

I agree with both of these but really if your going i9 which from what I hear is $1000 or so might as well spend the extra $50 to get a good 2000Mhz 8 or 7CAS ram. I would reccomend these, I have a pare exactly like them but mine is the 4GB model and I got mine to run at 2133Mhz at 8CAS.

Well, since we're talking about spending a fortune now, Corsair has a set of Dominators exclusive to their online shop.

2000Mhz 7-8-7-20
It'll run you the big bucks for 6GB, though - $479

You'll be really special, though!

If I OC my i7 920 to 3.66ghz, won't that take my RAM above 1600? Is 1600 really enough for a 3.66ghz overclock?
