Default Help with Ram

So I posted up a thread a few days ago asking was a problem I was having related to my Ram (it was) and a few nice people linked me to some different kits of ram.I liked how the RipJaws from G.Skill

So I started reading reviews on them and realised they were all tested on P55 boards so I started trying to find if they could be run on my board and came across a thread on Xtremesystems about my motherboard and they were having lots of problem running ram at 1600 Mhz (Due to a P45 chipset limit) even though the board is rated for it (When its in a single slot on each channel)

This was when the board came out (mid 2008) and the more recent posts seem to have no problems.

The interesting part is that it was noted that 1333 Mhz usually benches with higher scores than the faster 1600 Mhz.If I run it at 1333 I can also run ram in all 4 slots if I want.I'm not interested in benchmarks so does would 4GB of 1600 Mhz be faster/have any advantages than 4GB of 1333 Mhz

I'm swaying towards the 1333 simply because I can add another 4GB to that if I want.

Thanks guys

Well I got the Ripjaws 2000 for an AMD board, even though it had i5 and i7 splashed all over the place. I'm of the old school belief that RAM is RAM is RAM...

I'm running them 2 DIMMS at 1600 now, and I knew there was no chance in hell at getting them at 2000. My theory was tighter timings at those lower clocks.

If it helps, I think it's my weak point in my system now - but I don't totally blame the RAM - the IMC for the AMD's are much worse than your Intel chipset for DDR3's...

I think your intuition is right on lowering it with the added DIMM's - and I'll probably do the same myself. Saying that, keep your timings loose so that once it works... you can slowly try raising it back up.

Sorry if AMD part of me is causing confusion - just trying to help.

I agree with you about the Ram is Ram thing too.I read into it more and you can run the 1333Mhz tighter than 1600MHz and the same quantity of ram,the 1333MHz will beat the 1600 Mhz,most due to the lax timings on the higher speed I'd say
