Default simple question

Hi guys I presently have this RAM in my system.

Its a 2X2gb Gskill.

Presently being used RAM

I want to purchase a 2X1gb stick of the same RAM (same timing just lest amount of RAM)

Plan on buying this RAM

1.So the question is will I have any trouble using this RAM (considering one set of slots is 2gb and the other set of slots will have 4gb)?
2.Will I see a performance. decrease?
3.I'm upgrading from Win XP to Win 7 do you think its worth it?
4. Will the extra RAM affect my current overclock?

1. Maybe, I have had issues using different sticks of RAM in the same machine before, but some times it works fine. It is a toss up really, but to be safe I would get the EXACT same RAM you have now.

2. Maybe, maybe not. If all works well you will have a THEORITICAL increase in memory bandwidth, but that will not give you a noticeable performance increase.

3. XP is an excellent OS, but W7 have many shiney new features. I like W7 a lot, but it is a personal preference. Make sure you get 64 bit if you want to use more than 4GB of RAM.

4. Yes, probably so. It is typically harder to OC with more RAM, and you will have to run your RAM at a lower frequency most likely. I have been very lucky with my RAM and my OC was not effected when I went from 6GB to 12GB, but I had to drop my RAM frequency 300MHz. Every machine is different, but again, you will probably have to cut some speed back somewhere if you use more RAM.

Since you already have 2 x 2 GB, I think you're already set and are already golden. If you add 2 x 1 GB, then it increases the stress on the northbridge which may or may not force to you re-stabilize your entire overclock.

4 GB is still a large amount of memory, so you definitely have a really great setup for the 64-bit version Windows 7. So, don't add any more memory unless you literally need more.
