My friend has an Acer computer, with a pentium E2160 and a motherboard with a nvidia chipset, not sure which, but it has gefore 7100 integrated video. the computer came with 2 512mb ddr2 667 sticks. We found a 2GB set online for only $33 bucks. the set is 2 1gb sticks of ddr2 800 Patriot performance memory. the computer has vista so it needed the upgrade, and when i popped the 2gb in the computer was much faster. then the bsod. i looked in the bois for options, and there isnt any. so i switched the memory around, and it worked fine for a few minutes then crashed again. i restarted a few times and all times it would crash at the windows screen. then i figured that a stick is bad. so i took them out one at a time and tried, but no luck. any idea what the problem is? its ddr2 800, but if the board doesnt support that shouldnt it automatically set it to 667? i was going to try the vista memory test, but it isnt in the F8 menu. could it be a virus or something not liking the new hardware? thanks for any help

yea it should reset it, maybe the problem is they r not matched/paired sticks. sometimes having unmatched sticks will do that. esp if u got them for a steal of a deal from somebody u dont know, they coulda just had 2 diff sticks from 2 diff sets and sold them together. may work in other cpus then crash on another.
__________________anothe rproblem may be those sticks have too hi of voltage, so u may wanna try a lower voltage. just went thru that putting in high end mushkins on an old board, and board just couldnt handle it, bsod every startup after a few mins just like u

thanks for the reply. the memory isnt being mixed, the mobo only has 2 slots. could both the sticks be bad?

ive heard mixed reviews from patriot. the viper extreme was what i was gonna get and it has good cas/timings but then other ppl were telling me it was junk. but then i had other peeps saying they sware by it and never had a problem. i guess it comes down to that person and the system and the silicone it was cut from. u want really good quality tho, try mushkin redline. wee bit pricy tho
