Default basic question i have about ram..

is it more important to have lower values at a lower MHz or higher values at a higher MHz?

ex, which is better (faster) and why?

DDR3-1866 CL 9-9-9-24 or DDR3-1600 CL 7-7-7-20

i have no prior knowledge so detail is encouraged ;] Thanks!

iirc, it's better to have the higher frequency with slightly higher timings. You could always get the best of both worlds and get RAM that's higher frequency than you want and drop the frequency to what you desire and lower the timings to be really tight

You might want to read this.
Generally it's better to have faster speed at slightly higher timings, but you're trying to get a combination of the 2.

2 clocks is a lot to give up for that small increase in speed. But for the exact answer someone would have to test. I suspect 1600 CL7 might have greater bandwidth. But also keep in mind that how application is making memory requests can come into play and depending how either of those could be better on specific app. No one size fits all.

And we are talking Intel here not AMD.
