Default Memory for gaming?

Whats the most memory you need for gaming?
Is their any need for more than 4GB of DDR3?

My Ram can run 1600mhz, but I run 1333 for tighter timings. I can't tell a difference between the 2 speeds except in benchmarks.

Depends what you're doing, as pointed out by ExperimentX's circumstance, but generally speaking, no there's no need for it for gaming. Even then, I used to run 4 instances of EVE (post visual upgrade client) just fine on a machine w/ 4gigs. I don't imagine you'd actually 'need' more unless you were trying to run like 10+ clients at the same time.

get the ram speed that matches your cpu bus speed

the ram bus speed is half its rated speed, so 800Mhz ram has a bus speed of 400MHz, so then you get your cpu specifications, and look at its rated bus speed, then double that and thats the speed of the ram you need to get, you only get faster ram then the cpu bus speed if you intend to overclock, for the extra room otherwise it's good to match them up for a 1:1 ratio

example: 333Mhz cpu bus speed, 667Mhz ram is the one to get

your overall system speed is determined by the slowest hardware in your system, out of your cpu/ram/motherboard so it's good to match up the speeds as best you can

you don't have to do this, but be aware that by design it will force you to run at the slowest speed of the system regardless of what you do

4GB of DDR2 800 or DDR3 1333 is recommended. As low as 2GB DDR2 533 will work for most games, though.
