Default need memory upgrade

i want to upgrade to 4gb of ram and i need some suggestions. am i correct that it would be better to get 2x2gb rather than trying to find 2x1gb that's compatible with what i have now? also when i first checked a couple months ago on newegg u could get 2x2gb for like $40 but now they all seem to be around $80 and up.
so anyone know where i can get decent 2x2gb for around $50?

Thanx

if your mobo has 4 slots for ram, you could buy 2 more 1GB sticks... that, in theory, would have better performance than 2 2GB sticks.

But yeah, every since i7 and i7/i5, which use ddr3, the demand for ddr2 went down so prices have started going up.

Unfortunatly, the CHEAPEST 2x2 kit will start at about $80. You can pick up a 2x1 kit of g.skill 800mhz for $50 though.

2 x 1 seems to be your best bet if you want to stay in the $50 range.

No,but you should get the same voltage/timings just to maybe avoid problems.

well they say you should not mix rams, but if all the ram sticks operate at the same timings, at the same mhz, and with the same voltage, i think you'll be fine.

Edit: are either of these your current ram? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...treme+DDR2-800

you bet. it'll be a little more expensive, but they are the exact same thing as what you have right now.
