I think it is the Crucial Ballistix DDR2 1000 RAM. I have times when I cannot even POST or get into BIOS unless I pull one of the sticks...It does not run well in dual Channel for me at all. I have some slower G Skill that works great.

I've got a warm boot issue with my board over 430FSB. Luckily, my chip is just not stable up there and 420 will suffice.

I have updated the BIOS to the 804, problem has reduced, but it is still there! Argg

Hi all,
Been wrapping my head around this topic for the last 2 days. However im left with a question or 2. Not everything direcly related to the topic, but there seem to be alot of skills on this forum System specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 w/Zalman CNPS9500AT Asus Commando OCZ DDR2 PC6400 2048MB Platinum XTC Dual Ch Gona start building in a couple of days when i get the mainboard, but i wanna educate myself some while waiting Aight, from what i have figured the 1333 strap will kick in at 401 FSB using the 9 multiplier. This should get me to 3,6Ghz, a good result with air-cooling i suppose. First thing im wondering is; Will i actually loose overall performance up until 467 Fsb x9, which is an impossible 4,2 ghz with my cooling, or is it only a 10-15 Fsb range (401-420'ish) where the performance will actually be lower (at the bottom of the 1333 strap). Wouldnt the higher memory and CPU frequenzy nullify or exceed the drop in NB latency rather fast? Im also a bit puzzled about using lower multiplier/higher FSB speed. With a multiplier of 8, i would hit the 1333 strap at 356-357 Fsb (9/8 x 356 *4) leaving me at a clock speed of 2,85 Ghz. Then the same problem as above arise, how much of a jump is needed from there to gain performance? My question is; Will 450Fsb x8 do less strain on the CPU itself and more on the NB than 400Fsb x9 would? Or will any combination leading to 3,6 Ghz on the cpu make it just as hot. What confuses me the most is im left with a feeling i could actually have pushed a E6300 or E6400 further than my E6600 cause this mainboard according to eveything i have read should handle 500Fsb easy enuff. Now cause i have to lower the multiplier to get there, the total Fsb of the NB will be 1,125-1,5 times higher than for the lower Cpu's at same settings... So basicly : Do i go to 400Fsb x9 with mem at 1:1 and be happy with that, or do i lower multi to 8 and aim for the 500Fsb mark.

My best recommendation to you is to get the Intel D975XBX2, or Abit AB9 QuadGT (pending confirmation of strap control). On the XBX2 you can manually control strap settings and the Quad GT is rumored to have the same features. I would wait to get a Commando until some independent reviews come out. I think it may just be a rebranded P5B Deluxe with a few extra perks and eye-candy. What is the batch number on your processor, that will tell you a lot about its overclock potential. If it is a L6XXBXXX you will run into heat concerns before you hit voltage limits. If it is a L6XXAXXX you will hit voltage issues before temperature issues. Just checked, Commando is getting great reviews when used in conjunction with the Vdroop mod. Here is the Commando in stock in at Ewiz for $215. http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=MB-...b5c5f1b2fed520

Thx for reply.
The components is ordered and on its way so nothing to do about that now, should be here tomorrow. Cpu is a "B" rev btw. I read through your first post again and i see now that the lower multiplier gives less performance. In your example with the 7x multi the total fsb of the Nb is close to 2700Mhz while with 400x9 its still in the 1066 strap range (1600 total). In theese 2 examples would the strain on the cpu (same Ghz) be the same? Or would a higher Fsb mean the NB is the one taking the beating running 2700 Fsb total.. If we have 2 setups in the same strap, say 462 x8 and 411 x9, both giving 3,7 Ghz, would the difference be as big, or any, as in the above example? I guess i have to do some testing on my own before understanding the full range of this. |

So to conclude this easily you want to run your FSB at either 266, 333, 400, 533Mhz to avoid these boot straps? Anything like around 280Mhz, 350Mhz, 420Mhz, 550Mhz is bad and will have less performance than the optimum FSB's above?
