That is what is confusing. At Intel prescribed straps, you are correct. However, motherboard engineers adjust the NBCC that each strap begins at to suit the overclocking needs of their customers. In effect, ASUS overclocked the P5B when they increase the trigger for the 1333Mhz strap from 333Mhz to 401Mhz.

That's why my program reports the straps as when they happen, not what latencies they use. And also, I don't know why they would bring it up to 401MHz. It is just an odd number. So if I had the P5B, I'd stay at 399 just to make sure.

But you see the strap is a term used for a series of latencies. There is no strap change at 333Mhz FSB. The strap change happens after 400Mhz FSB. So the 1066Mhz Strap peaks at 400Mhz FSB and the 1333Mhz strap begins at 401Mhz.

It doesn't. The 1066Mhz strap would start after 266.66Mhz it is important to note the word after.

So a stock Conroe is still at the very peak of the 800MHz strap? Because if so I've got some updating to do.

If there is a 800Mhz strap! All this is in theory. It has only been proven between the 1066Mhz strap and the 1333Mhz strap. Further testing on different motherboards and at different FSB must be done before we can generalize on straps at the 800Mhz, 1600Mhz, and beyond.

Once again, I am referring to the frequencies at which the straps occur rather than the sets of latencies themselves. So a DS3 user might be enjoying the set of latencies at 450FSB that a P5B user is stuck with at stock, or vice-versa. You can only compare straps on your board, and even so you must be careful as to which straps even exist.

How is this different from what I said?

You were saying that the straps are "in theory" and not yet proven, and I said I wasn't referring to the actual straps, only when they appeared. Close, but subtle. But I guess we can agree pretty much.
