Ok I signed up just to join in on this thread.
__________________This is the situation. I have this board, and I have the Q6600 G0. I stay at 345FSB to remain stable, but if I get close to 350FSB, it'll start to wobble, with random lockups... and if I get past 350FSB, i can't boot to windows, sometimes i post with CPU description it stops, etc, whatever. After 350FSB it just won't budge. I had a E6700 that was a BAD chip, but i still managed a 3.9GHZ. So I know this is a prob with the 9x and it being a Quad. Now these mods I've been reading about, this only helps vdroop and vcore, am I correct? it won't necessarily help with the wall.... is there anything we can do about this wall???

Yes it does.. that's exactly what this thread is about and the problem has to do with low amounts of GTL volts set via hardware on the boards... meaning all they had to do is make them a bit higher which they didn't or make it so that with certain chips they default higher or something.... (I also might have gotten the name of the specific voltage wrong)
one thing I know is that it is a separate voltage that needs to be changed and then the board will OC as others can Vdroop and vcore are separate mods but I think they are also mentioned and linked/posted on the earlier pages of this thread... I recommend you definitely read this thread... it is exactly and has exactly what you are looking for

I re-read everything, and I didn't click on that external link... I think I understand things a bit better, however, this mod... I have to take a soldering iron to my motherboard? lol I dunno, it's a little rich for my blood. What about pencil mod, as someone have said, anyone have pics or numbers to show?

You have to go to those external links though... CPL3 reposted most of it and did a great job but most of the technical discussions were on those if I remember correctly
and you got it right now... the pencil mods are the Vdroop and Vcore mods... the one for higher FSB's with Quads involves a soldering iron, risk and voiding your warranty... but seem to have worked for many if performed right... CLP3 could mod it for you perhaps, ask him the other option is to consider Ebaying and buying an other board

Ok, I'll just publicly ask, CLP3, want to mod my board? I'll paypal you. I like to keep my board if at all possible, it has SLI and I plan on SLI'ing in the future.

anyone know where the trimmers can be located? I have the tools and the skill to do the mod - just no access to 200 ohm trimmers =o(

I think I read somewhere someone was talking about the new bios 1203, I tried it and it upped my wall at 360ish, i'm at 355FSB stable, but anything above that is wibbly wobbly.

lol. I think I'm trying to lighten up the frustration this stupid FSB wall is handing to me. It's just a little unstable. It's at 3.2GHZ, but after some testing, my presumptions are correct.
__________________3.2GHZ quad-core vs 3.8GHZ dual-core with a 8800gtx 688/1000 showed 1frame improvement in game1, game2 and 1.5frame improvement in game3, game4 (HDR) in 3dmark06. So I guess for all intent and purposes, it's not TOO bad... =|
