I truly believe that anyone who wants to OC a Quad needs to invest on a Watercooling System. These beasts need a whole lot of Vcore pumped into them. Without WC you are toeing the line between instability and intolerable high temps while balancing on a set Vcore.
You will be limited to a "marginal" OC without a better cooling solution.

I've got the EVGA 680i board. The rev. A1 board has a hardware change allowing for more stable OC with the quad core. It is aparently all down to one resistor change. Here is the link at VrZone.

Motherboard and Memory are going to be within the top three, With the motherboard being number one (at least to me) The p35 Boards will fair better for Quad OCing, the proof's in P35 board testing overall. Most of the reviewers are using Kentsfield's because the OCing on 965 boards wasn't spectacular. Needless to say, on p35 boards they're seeing higher clocks on the same CPUs.

But it might shed light on the future for OCing quad cores on the ASUS board. You probably wont see a Bios update to fix the quad OC issue as the board might need a hardware change like the reference 680i board (EVGA's board is the NVIDIA reference design).

yea... that is a good point. I scooted closer when you mentioned that... I am worried I might actually have to do a hard mod to get the extra .2GHz I would otherwise be able to get on air... (which translated to about or more than a 1GHz increase on non-duo chips!)
why did you say it was a resistor... it looks like you have to mess with three separate ones...

@USLatin: why would you need to scoot closer on a 24" screen, FOO!

Asus does make their own boards but the nvidia chipset hardware is still made by nvidia (through a 3rd party fab). I doubt that there will be any bios release that will provide more than minimal increases in quad overclocking. Our board has already had almost a dozen bios releases since I got it last november and performance has not improved.
__________________In fact, I was able to hit 524 FSB the first two weeks I got the board with 0302 bios revision with 3 different dual core chips. That still seems to be the ceiling. The bios revisions have fixed things like sound issues with X-FI and memory compatibility. Again, to my prior point, this is really only an issue with the Q6600. The extreme quads can go much higher through a blend of unlocked multis and fsb, the only real limit being cooling. King_Pin set the 3dmark06 record with a QX6700 and the asus striker extreme
