Already the P35 chipsets are outperforming the 965/975 chipsets in Quad performance, but still lack a little edge on dual core performance.
I was thinking P35 but I couldn't wait for the P35 models I wanted to get here in Canada. For what it is costing in shipping/brokerage to RMA the eVGA I could have had four P35s overnight shipped from the US by private jet and then helicoptered to my home.

P5k and P5B have unlocked multi's for CPU...is this news to you?

Although I have got a quick session in windows at 360mhz FSB, and one at 400mhz FSB @ 3.6ghz...it was not 100% stable. Some more tweaking and I am confident I can get it past 3.6ghz even.

Since FSB is in question, I will see what the highest stable FSB I can record is, with my new mobo.
Not sure what your point is but almost all motherboards have the ability to match what the cpu can do. Only the extreme series CPU's have the ability to "upp" the multi above stock regardless of what motherboard you use.

My lawyer who doesn't live far from you and could have shipped it to me. I would have done this had I known how costly this BS was going to be.

I was pointing out to another, that there are ways around a 'locked multi'. Yes you are correct, any number of premium mobo's no, unlock the multi for downwards use. ^^^That was my point exactly.

I was also referring to the newer chipsets ability to gain a higher stable FSB using a multi-core cpu.

Well i wonder if this statement regarding the EVGA 680i applies to the P5N32-E SLI /Striker also?

Quote:
It was found that the GTL Reference Voltage, derived from CPU VTT/FSB Voltage, on the 680i SLI Motherboard, needed a little boost for better FSB overclocks on Kentsfield Processors. About a 0.03v-0.05v boost should yield better FSB overclocks on a Kentsfield Processor. Current boards do not have this implementation, but newer boards should be tuned with a little more GTL Ref Voltage with Kentsfields.
Interesting...

eVGA released a revised version of their 680i to fix this issue. I do not believe that ASUS did.

In short, the newer versions of the 680i boards cannot overclock quads well. I exchanged mine (wouldn't allow me to raised the FSB even 25mhz!) for the updated version (A1, in eVGA's case) and i've been able to get 1600FSB without a problem. Didn't try higher.
