Default P5N32-E SLI 680i Quad Failure

I would like to start a thread regarding issues on the P5N32-E SLI 680i when it comes to overclocking Quad Cores....namely the Q6600. It has been reported that they do not like high FSB with the Quads at all.

I decided to do a few tests and it seems that it will not boot at 3.2Ghz+, but with the Core 2 Duo range they are stonking overclockers as my E6600 was doing stable 3.6Ghz operation using 9x 400 (1600 QDR).

This is not the case with the Q6600, it will not do anything above 1400 QDR.

If anyone has any ideas or solutions to this current problem, i and many other P5N32-E SLI 680i owners would love to hear from you.

See attachment for my current highest stable (it seems) overclock.

Hopefully some more 680i QUAD owners chime in here. As I can see a lot of people moving to Quad-Core CPU's without upgrading the motherboard to P35/X38 Chipsets being very upset with their results.

Asus boards seem to be the better Quad Handlers, though, and I can't see why you can't get 3.2Ghz. We discussed in PMs that it could be the memory, so maybe that's a place to startt?

It could well be the memory, but running in Unlinked mode would remove the DDR2 667's limitation. I will be buying the ram in my sig, but unfortunately it's going to be a week or so before i get some.

So, it would be nice to hear from some other users. +Rep to you Audi for your input via PM.

Bumpage....

Anyone here with a Q6600 & P5N32-E SLI 680i that can do more than 1430 (QDR)?

The highest i've seen our board do with a quad (a qx6700) is 380 mate. If you had the Qx6700, the unlocked multi would make fsb limitations irrelevant but with the Q6600 you will be challenged to go any higher. Its not a ram issue.

Do you think there will be a Bios release that will correct this issue?

I ran 1440 last night, 3600mhz on 360x10. I try not to mess with the multi at all. I found that my QX6700 has an insatiable VCore diet. It needs a lot of Volts to power up those four cores.

Multipliers are locked by the chip company, and are HARDWIRED into the CPU ( I believe )

No bios-software can "unlock" a hardware issue.
