Default Abit IP35 Pro/XE Discussion/Help Thread

Welcome to the Abit IP35 Pro/XE thread here at Overclock.net. Ask questions and get help with your IP35 Pro/XE. Since the Pro is being phased out in favor of the IP35 Pro XE I'm also offering coverage of it here. We'll also attempt to help with the other Abit P35 motherboards, too. Contact me if you've got any additions to the thread. Keep specific questions about the board or overclocking with it in the thread so any members may have access to the information.

What's New
5/11/2009 - Since the brand was discontinued, I removed the where to buy links.
8/21/2008 - From what I can tell it doesn't look like Abit will be making any new boards, so if you want an Abit board, get it now.
6/27/2008 - Added coverage of the IP35 Pro XE as well. Also added links to buy in the UK.
5/30/2008 - Quick cleanup of some stuff, fixed some links, etc.
1/10/2008 - Tons of new links, heatsinks, and other items of interest. Removed the overclocks section because it really isn't that important.
11/03/2007 - Added more heatsinks and overclocks, and cleaned up some of the stuff a bit.
10/05/2007 - Been a while, hasn't it? Added the links to the newest BIOS.
8/26/2007 - Biggest update in a while. Added an overclock, a couple of reviews, the link to the latest BIOS, a bunch of heatsinks, and a section of places to buy it from (I'll add more later).
8/16/2007 - More heatsinks and overclocks.
8/7/2007 - Got a better image of the board, added a couple of overclocks.
8/3/2007 - Added compatible northbridge/southbridge/MOSFET water blocks, also an additional note.
8/2/2007 - Added compatible heatsinks, fixed some formatting.

Some informative specifications:
  • Supports all Core 2 processors.
  • Intel P35 Express / ICH9R chipset.
  • 4 x 240-pin DIMM sockets for dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM, native support for up to DDR2-800 (also supports much higher RAM speeds, ie. Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1066, with a little bit of BIOS tweaking)
  • Dual Gigabit-LAN
  • Onboard Realtek 7.1 Channel Audio, supporting S/PDIF out.
  • 2 PCI Express x16 Expansion Slots (1 at x4 bandwidth) supporting Crossfire amongst newer HD 2K series cards. (Crossfire of X1K series cards is supported, as well, but I believe doesn't perform as well as on the P965 chipset due to ATI driver issues.)
  • 1 PCI Express x1 Expansion Slot
  • 3 Vanilla PCI Slots
  • 1 PATA 133 (or less) connector supporting two ports (off of the JMB363 controller)
  • 6 SATA 3.0Gb/s connectors (off of the southbridge)
  • 2 Firewire (IEEE1394a) Connectors
  • 3 USB 2.0 Headers makes six internal or front panel ports.
  • Front Panel Audio connection
  • PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse Ports
  • S/PDIF In and Out
  • 2 eSATA Ports (off of the JMB363 controller)
  • 7.1 Channel Audio Connectors
  • 4 Backpanel USB 2.0 ports
  • 2 RJ-45 Gigabit LAN connectors.
  • EZ Clear CMOS Switch
  • RoHS Compliant
  • abit µGuru Technology
  • 100% Japanese made Solid State Capacitors

Other Notes
  • Because the SATA ports and IDE port are placed sideways, there can be some issues with clearance when connecting hard drives in certain cases.
  • It appears to be impossible to RAID 0 two hard drives on the eSATA ports of the Jmicron JMB363 alternate controller.
  • The board appears to overvolt RAM a bit, so don't set voltage above stock unless you want to fry your RAM.
  • The board supports all CPU's that the P35 chipset supports. That is, it supports all Socket 775 CPU's except for the 300-series Celeron D's.
  • All heatsinks and waterblocks compatible with the original Pro should also be compatible with the XE as both motherboards use the same PCB and heatsink layout.

Yeah thats outstanding, alot of good info there. Give me some time and Ill post up more stuff, I can get a cpuz at 540fsb probably and I can post up my high oc's again if my chip will do it. I can get 4.2 4.3ghz easy but reaching 4.5 again may be a long shot but Ill give it a try. Ill get my top ram speeds also. Probably tomorrow.

Do you have stock cooling on the NB MADMAX? How did you get such a high FSB? I am considering this board.

Well its the spirit extreme II, I dont think it makes much difference though as it dont get to hot and I was only touching the vmch at 1.44v. I could go much higher but the cpu was limiting that fsb.

Its really pretty easy with this board just need a 6x50 series to really explore it.

We gotta get someone with t a Q6600 G0 to post... MadMaxx u have one on the way right?

So far my board gets up to 375FSB and these chips are good for at least 4.0GHz so I am reeeeealy looking forward to hear about the combination....

Any chance people could post full BIOS settings along with their clocks? That would make this a killer thread for what I heard is a killer top shelf pro-stuff board, I mean just look at MadMaxx's clocks on his sig!

Default Abit IP35 Pro MOSFET Heatsink Replacement?

Guys, I've been building computers for years, but this new motherboard with a Q6600 is my first foray into water cooling. I have the Abit IP35 Pro and have two Swiftech MCW30 chipset water-blocks for the north/south bridge chipsets. However, if I remove the heatpipe, I lose cooling on the MOSFETs.

I was going to go with the Thermalright HR-09, but none of the versions are compatible with this motherboard.

Can someone recommend something?

I've tried to contact Universal Abit and Abit-USA to maybe order the MOSFET heatsink from the Abit IP35-E motherboard, but no one has replied to any of my e-mails or phone calls.

Thanks!

-Jaspreet

The southbridge really doesnt get hot at all for the most part. I put one of the hr05 or whatever it is ont he sb but I dont think I needed it.

To answer your question I took one of those HDD cooler/silencer brackets that you put on each side of them to mount them into a 5" bay and cut it down to the right size (fits perfectly) and mounted that on the PWM.

It does ok and holds 42c under full load with 1.55vcore. I may have to upgrade it when I go to quad though.
Heres a pic of it from my phase build log thingy

That scares me... it is all custom stuff u got going on... Is there any way that the Swiftech copper sinks would work? I am used to the eight mosfets per side... what do they look like bare?
