Good find, eric!!! Are you going to upgrade? Just wondering if it would be worth it... guess I need to research the 780i boards and see what has changed.

Disableing a core will allow for higher overclocks. But this is only advantages when trying to ubtain the highest GHz overclock possible (bragging rights). Many of the highest OCs have been possible by extreme cooling and dsableing a core. I would suspect it would allow for less vcore to run the remaining core.

As for the FSB, I've personally run mine up to 525 FSB, but there are serious performance hits above 480 FSB due to the chipset's latency.

I hope this answers your questions.

Hi there.
I've been playing with my setup, 680i A1 board, and I'm pretty much stuck at 3.57Ghz. I can get it to boot, but it always freezes during windows load up. I know it's not my RAM, because I turn that way down just to make SURE it's not the problem.

I've changed V-core up to 1.55v, but I don't feel I should need it that high, mainly because I can run 3.55Ghz for 12hours on Orthos @1.42v. So I'm not sure if I'm just at the chips limit, or there is some setting messing with the OC. I've done the V-Droop mod, and it's super stable now. I read 1.42 in every instance I check, full load and all.

Temps are never higher then 58°C. I've run this chip way warmer and it was stable, with the previous HSF I had..
I just can't think of anything else.. Any Ideas?
Do you think I'm just at the chips limit? Or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!

If you are runnign an E6320 at 3.57GHz, then you are running the FSB up in the 500+ range. What SPP (northbridge) voltage are you running? I was able to run a 525 FSB with SPP (northbridge) and FSB voltgae both at 1.5v.

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that also. So far, it doesn't seem to matter what I set the MCP voltage on. I've tried it at 1.5, and still no joy. But again, I've been able to run the MCP voltage @ 1.4v for the 12hour Orthos run that I talked about earlier. I've also tried the {Auto} setting, and still nothing. So I'm not sure if that's the culprit or not..

EDIT:
I just looked, and I'm not even running the P31 BIOS..
I'm gonna flash that now, see if that helps.. I'll report back findings..

When you flash, be sure to restore factory bios settings. If yo flash with the OCed settings, it will cause some issues.

Aslo, MCP is the southbridge and doesnt have an effect on the FSB. The SPP voltage is what you need to concern yourself with. The MCP's default voltage is 1.5v.

The SPP votage default is 1.2v and the max you should go is 1.5v.

alright..
Just flashed the bios, all went well. Upped the volts, and tried to boot at 3.57Ghz, and no joy. V-Core was set to 1.5, just to be sure that wasn't the issue. RAM was down to 800mhz, which it can run 1200mhz all day. SPP voltage was set to 1.5v, I left the other to AUTO setting.
Thoughts? Ideas?

(Thanks BTW for all the help) +Rep
