Abit iX38 QuadGT - Living Review

Quote:

Ok, all set up and ready to go.

I was keen to see how hot these digital PWMs get, so I loaded up 4x900 and fed it 1.45v (may sound high, but the maximus required 1.53v ), and after around 20 minutes, one of the PWM readings was at 78c and rising, so I leant a 92mm Yate Loon on it and the temps dropped to around 55c.

I also had to change the µGuru skin as the stock one was causing me to vomit at regular intervals

457x9 - I'm pretty sure that this is as high as I can go on air cooling for now, but not too bad
CPU-Z Validator Database
Looks pretty good, although it seems the PWMs still get really hot like on the p965 quadgt...

I'm not entirely sure, Abit EQ and CPU-Z never really matched up for me either... It always seemed as though CPU-Z was reading my vCORE as higher than what I had set it to in the bios(on a p965 QuadGT). That along with Core Temp never working really irked me...

The Digital PWMs can handle in excess of 100°C w/o issue(I believe up to 110/120°C)...

I'm thinking no way is 1.48 correct, not for 450x9.

But wow, I like that board.

-UPDATE-

http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/revie....html#post3507

Quote:
Stability - the board just isnt stable. Sure, you can crank up the voltage to achieve stability, but why would anyone want to be hitting 1.55v+ for 3.6Ghz, when you know that your CPU will do it in a *decent* board at 1.4v or less? Add the heat from your highly overvolted CPU, to the 5x white hot PWMs and you have yourself a replacement for your central heating boiler.
It seems clunk really struggled with this board... Apparently having a terrible time clocking to 400 FSB(stable). Its tough to say whether he has bum board or his results are indicative of a premature bios. Still it would seem his results are not necessarily all that telling as a member of extremesystems has already hit 490+ FSB.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...7&postcount=57

-EDIT-

At this rate I may just go Gigabyte... It seems they are one of the last MB makers that still has their boards manufactured in Taiwan. The Chinese boards(Asus, Abit, Asrock, et cetera) are sorely lacking in quality control. I had high hopes, now it seems if I do upgrade I will have to settle on a mobo that looks like it was torn straight out of the sixties. I hate Gigabyte color schemes .
