Default asus pk5 deluxe

Anyone have any problems installing a heatsink backplate brace on this mobo?
I heard that asus pk5 deluxe has some chips on the back of the mobo where the plate usually goes.

Thanks

The Deluxe has some MOSFETs to the right of the CPU socket, which may affect CPU backplates if they are oversized:

thats kinda weird there only like 5.00 diff. in price,i guess i shoulda checked first, well im putting a e2200 in not going to be an o/cing beast anyways, with a evga 7950gt ko superclocked should be fine it a f/s rig

ASUS boards with PCprobe read CPU temp from a sensor sitting on the PCB under the 775 socket. Same with my P5NE-SLI. At idle (below35C) PCprobe and Coretemp should spit out identical readings. As I load cores and approach 50C there is a 10C difference between the two. Hit 60C and the difference is 15C.

Short story...Use Coretemp. PCprobe readings could be hazardous to your CPU.

this is my 1st ever post, ent fully set up the account yet but just saw this page...if u have not already got this board and you have a c2d or quad, get it. i havent been overclocking for long but i can hit 4.2ghz (and probably higher) on this board (wifi-ap) and never have a problem booting, not always stable if im undervolting but it still boots. i am running 3.8 atm. aslong as u have updated the bios the only thing stopping you is heat. only things wrong with it are the ram and cpu r linked but its intel so will be and the sata ports arent placed very gd if u hav a large graphics. but this is by far the best board i have ever used.

Default Asus P5K-E WiFi memory available in Windows XP 32-bit

Hi,

A quick question:

If someone has installed an Asus P5K-E/WiFi system with 4 GB of RAM (nothing too strange these days)...

How much memory do you have available in Windows XP 32-bit?

(i.e. the RAM reported by the "General" tab of "System Properties"... you know, right-click "My PC" > Properties)

Also important is to clarify which video card/s (or onboard video) are you using.

Why I'm asking?

If you install 4 GB RAM, Windows XP 32-bit will "see" from 2 GB (very extreme and rare) to around 3.6 GB depending on the expansion devices and how the motherboard maps the resources. This is solely up to the motherboards' vendors.

For example, the same exact configuration (same video cards, etc. that I need/use) on an Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi/AP only leaves 2.4 GB available for Windows XP 32-bit, while in a MSI P965 Platinum 3 GB.

I tested it in person and kept the MSI. Also the Gigabyte motherboards are very good at this (I have read reports of about 3.25-3.5 GB available) but I can't buy them where I live.

I'm considering an upgrade, but don't want to "waste" too much memory. I use every bit (no pun indeed) of RAM available. And believe me that 0.6 MB is a difference for some pro apps. The P5K-E/WiFi looks good, but I don't want to have the same problem like the P5B Deluxe WiFi/AP I bought previously. and had to replace with the MSI.

Thank you very much!

Hey Zimbo ! Welcome ..!
I ran the P5K-E WiFi until last week when I got the Maximus..With 4 G ram.Vista will allocate about 1 G to priority applications and background goodies. It does so irrespective of what mobo you have.
Talking of which, update your sig rig so we can see what you running will ya ?
If ram is a criteria for your use,Id suggest going the 8 G route then..

If you want parts and stuff from here,pm me via the forum and we can hook up..
I hope you have saved all those gazzilions of Zim Dollahs though !
Cheers..
