Small update, finally had a chance to play with the board

Still a bit of tweaking to do so I may be able to squeak out a bit more from it, temps are freaking amazing.

I have a quick question concerning a feature offered by the ICH9R chipset that this mobo comes equipped with.

Anyone using AHCI on this? At the moment I have this particular setting in BIOS as IDE. I'm not at home right now so I cannot try this again but when I set it to AHCI, I believe windows shot up a BSOD.

Also, I started messing around with this motherboard soon after I saw this thread start and got my Q6600 to 3.4Ghz Prime95 stable (8x425). My memory is running at 850 with timings of 5-5-5-12 or 15 I can't recall at 2.1v. I have 4 gigs of Corsair XMS2 6400C4. I managed to hit 3.6Ghz but couldn't get it Prime95 stable unless I had the Vcore at 1.5 and although I have water cooling wasn't keen on the P35 chipset hitting anything above ~43C - P35 has proven to go a little crazy with heat applied and that's with a WC block sitting on it. I'll post my CPU-Z screenie and Prime crap when I get home.

Sorry for the double post but here's some info I found in Wiki on AHCI.

* Enabling AHCI in a system BIOS will spawn a 0x7B BSoD STOP error on installations of Windows XP where AHCI/RAID drivers for that system's chipset are not installed. Switching to AHCI requires installing new drivers before changing BIOS settings. Some later versions of Windows XP Service Pack 2 include limited AHCI/SATA support

* When attempting to install Microsoft Windows XP or a previous version on an AHCI-enabled system will cause the setup to fail with the error message "set up could not detect hard disk drive...". This problem can only be corrected by using a floppy disk with the appropriate drivers or by slipstreaming the appropriate drivers into the Windows XP installation CD.

* Enabling AHCI in a system BIOS with Windows Vista already installed will result in a BSoD if SATA has been running in IDE mode during Vista's installation. Before enabling AHCI in the BIOS, users must first follow the instructions found at Microsoft Knowledge Base article 922976 (currently unavailable in English, see this workaround using babelfish).

* Enabling AHCI or receiving a system with AHCI enable, will cause EPHD (Encryption Plus Hard Drive from PC Guardian) to error out when attempting to Hibernate out of Windows OS (such as Windows XP). The major aspect of this issue is that it can NOT be changed without reimaging/re-installing the entire system. There may be a root level fix not apparant on new (Circa April 2007) HP Compaq NC8430 laptops.

* Enabling AHCI in a system BIOS on installations of Windows XP or Windows Vista, will cause SATA Optical drives to disappear. A Hotfix for Windows Vista is available. SATA optical drives are not available after you start a Windows Vista-based computer Microsoft Knowledge Base article

Guess my experience is the norm.

Yeah, I like the P5K-E WIFI-AP, so far I have got mine at 3.4Ghz, 1.5 volts and it seems rock solid.

Couldn't get 4.2ghz Orthos stable last night so I dropped it back to 8 x 520 and she's purring like a kitten. To go from 520 to 525 takes a lot of extra voltage so I suspect I'm getting pretty close to the chip's threshold. From here I think I'll just tweak the voltages and RAM timings.

BTW - I'm not very impressed with my Ballistix Tracers.....To get them to run stable past 1050mhz I really have to loosen the subtimings up. I may pop my HK's back in my rig and see how much I can improve my SuperPi time.

Seems the P5K-E wasn't listed on the Maximum Overclocking Charts published by PCStats:

link

Anyone think why it isn't? Or where it would slot in on the chart?
