Here is a neat alternative to the nb stock cooler demo'd by Syrillian.
Antec Spot Cool Cost me $11 Best $11 I have spent thus far. The fan is 80mm, 3 speed, blue led. At medium (which is 2500 RPM, 18 CFM, 27 DBA) you cannot hear it over the rest of the computer. I had to cut off the protective grill to make it fit under the wire mount for the ultra 120e but it fits with 2mm to spare. I used a black ziptie on the other side (to the heatpipe) to make sure its stable and does not vibrate.

Littlratt will also be co-authoring this thread and he will be using his QX9650. I will also be using an E8500.

Thanks Robilar,and Littlrat.
I have received my 780i board, and I am in the process of building the system (Halcyon mod). I have always respected and welcomed your experience and knowledge as you have helped me in the past with my Noob questions and antics. I for one will be watching to see what you can teach me this time. Thanks... and "Subscribed".

Regarding the DFI board, that would NCSA's results and his are pretty much unique with the 45nm quad, he has even admitted that it is hit or miss. The EVGA 780i is built on the success of the EVGA 680i with 45nm quad support. As I will testing exclusively with a 45nm dual core and Ratt a 45nm quad, I expect our results should be of interest to OCN members.

the 780i is also supposed to overclock quads just as well as an x38 or a p35 so this thread will be helpful. that is why i have an asus p5n-t on its way to my house as we speak
.

I just came off an X38 board (Maximus Formula SE) and so far, it did a better job of overclocking my 9650. But I did a "nuke and pave" (fresh install) of XP, and something went screwy since I have random BSD's and windows error messages. I'm gonna do another fresh install over the next few days and maybe this will change my opinion.

Making statements that overclocking will be the same as the 680i with Quads is a bold claim considering nobody really knows as yet. At the end of the day rich folk like LitRatt won't be put off regardless....him having a QX will make all the difference no matter how the board scales with 45nm Quads.
My personal opinion is that things won't be the same at all as they were with Kentsfield with the 680i. The GTL Ref voltage required probably isn't the same requirement needed for Kentsfield overclocking. Remember it's a 45nm chip... My only gripe about the 780i is this..... 1) Is it worth the purchase unless your going TRI SLI? 2) Is Yorkfield worth upgrading to from Kentsfield, considering from a gaming point of view which the 780i is really designed for (ie; TRI SLI) processor speed and number of cores is seemingly irrelevant. Everything is GPU dependant and i can't see that changing. 3) 790i is coming and i can see that dwarfing anything the 780i has to offer.
