Argh.

I suddenly got an "unidentified network" problem in Vista earlier today and I spent most of the time blaming it on Vista until I came across d3daiM's old thread about his problem with NVidia network controller. I couldn't input MAC address in BIOS and I was forced to update to P03. Piece of crap.

Well i got my new xfx 780i board all hooked up and running, i didn't do a fresh install of vista although i may well do as some strangeness is occuring (hardly surprising) but 2 things are really making me wonder.

1. multiplier is fixed at 7 X in the bios, cant see any way to change this and i have tried a fair times.

2. it's only seeing 3gb 2.8 in vista widget, despite it showing four in the bios and nvidia control panel.

weirdness? the most i can run at the moment is 2.8 or 7 X 400 @1.3625

1. Strange, but I would try and flash the P03 bios and see what happens from there. I think it is directly related to the fact that you haven't completed a fresh install.

2. If you are running vista 32x, all you will see is what your seeing. It occurs with any 32 bit OS. Upgrade to a 64 bit system and you will see all 4GB.

the memory issue is unrelated the the OS version, prior to the MOBO swap, it showed 4gb but only 3.25 in use. Now it only sees 3gb with 2.8 in use.

Looking under P03 bios on xfx's site however shows...

*Resolves issues with G0 stepping CPU's detecting odd multipliers

will flash away now........... then i'll update the bios

I finally gave up on EVGA's 680i-780i swap after a few weeks of not even moving in the queue. I ordered my 780i earlier in the week and I should be getting it on Mon or Tues. It was $89 for the swap - but considering I only paid $230 for this board from NowDirect and can probably sell my 680i for at least $140, It's not a big difference. I'm in no big hurry to find a buyer.

I'm hoping with the improvements that I can get my Q6600 up to 3.8 or even 4.0 by reducing the V-core needed. Hopefully the separate GTL reference voltage options in the BIOS will help, also. I might lap my TRUE, as well. I'll post my results.

That probably isn't going to fix it, those weird multipliers were just multipliers that weren't suppose to be there. For example, I could select 7x for my mutliplier, but it would show up as 7.5, you might just need to give in and do a complete reinstall, which mobo did you have last? If it is a 680i, you should actually have very very few problems, some people have been perfectly fine not doing it.

On another note, has anyone had any luck finding a program that shows or demonstrates which core in windows matches the cores for the GTL references. Still haven't been able to find a bad core for example in prime, and successfully tweak an individual cores GTL in the bios.

Well the flash to p03 has sorted things now, recognises the default multiplier as being 9x, and allows me to adjust it manually which strangely it didnt allow before, so im a happy bunny, i ended up doing a fresh install as well, but still having RAM issues, so gonna reseat them all tonight. Im going from 4 x1gb xms2 to 2x 2gb this month anyway, just have to decide on a good flexible RAM brand thats readily available here in the UK. Then its a 2nd xfx 8800GT this month and i'll be a happy man!

Well i will when scan get the friggin T.R.U.E back in stock. It's a nightmare to source locally over here. got a 120mm scythe fan waiting for it here all ready to replace by AC7, its a bit too toasty for my liking.

The 4 GTL voltages don't match up to cores. i think only 2 goes to just the CPU. The others are for NB SB and some of the connections between them. I found what each one does on the EVGA forums once but i am unable to find it right now maybe you will have better luck.
