Getting it stable at 3.3ghz or less, for a 65n quad, is no problem for anyone, I think. It's when you start to get close to 3.5ghz and above for air that it becomes tricky. Whe WC guys are hitting 3.6 fairly easily but have to really tweak to get much more.

Installation

Everything was straight forward and to the point like you would expect from DFI, no little installation surprises. The “Heat Minator” installed without issue and the layout and spacing of the motherboard made installation of memory, graphics card and CPU straight forward. All of the cable connectors on the board are also all located in sensible positions with nothing being hard to get to or connect.

The manual and the installation CD were also both very painless to use and all drivers installed on Windows XP without issue. The only criticism I could make would be that the manual doesn’t include a BIOS walkthrough, although having said that most of us would tend to find that information over the internet these days anyway.

The DFI LanParty LT X48-T2R is definitely one of the best thought out and designed motherboards I have ever seen and living with it over the past week or so I have found it to be more stable for the first few clocks I have done than any other board I have owned.

Previously I was running an Asus P5K Premium motherboard and this CPU hit an FSB wall at around 495Mhz while giving 1.8v to the Northbridge. The LT didn’t make a peep as I went for my first boot at 500Mhz and booted all the way up to 520Mhz using 1.5v where it decided to hit a wall again. However it was stable at 515Mhz which is a 20Mhz improvement with the same CPU.

Voltages were also very good and in some instances showing an opposite to vdroop. Setting 1.5v for the CPU yields 1.52v from CPU-Z in windows which makes a refreshing change and I mostly put this down to the 8-phase digital PWM. [Ed: The 'Vcore Droop Control' is more likely I'd expect, and probably a bit over-enthusiastic]

Please stay tuned as we will be adding some more detailed clocking and benchmarking results to this review within the next week. Consequently, the score might go up or down a bit depending on the results.

You might want to find out what all those settings do before you just plug them in. I have NO IDEA what host slew rate is but none of the guys on XS are messing with it. GTL settings are pretty much what makes things stable for you. They will be slightly different for everyone but I've been the most stable at 105/110/85. If you follow the list in the link from Pauldovi, you can find a range for you to start with. It goes by ACTUAL CPU VTT, not set in bios. There are guys hitting 550 FSB so I know the board is capable. I'm on air so heat is the enemy for me. The board is much more stable than my old P5N32E 680i board and uses a lot less Vcore and NBcore. I've made the board not get into windows twice and one of those wouldn't post at all, that's after TONS or bios changes. Right now i'm P95 stable at 3.4ghz @ 1.31Vcore, 1.23 VTT, and 1.24 NBcore, GTL's are above. Temps are in the mid to high 60s at load. I would be interested in his OC guide once he finishes it. I'm all about learning the most I can about this bios and there really isn't that much out there. If you could keep up with it and post his guide when he posts it, we'd be much appreciative.
