TIP:

If you don't want that crappy NB fan blowing onto your vid card just take it off and replace it with an 80mm fan blowing upwards instead of down. I just tied it on there with two small strands of wire i stripped out of an old ethernet cable. I get good temps (32-36) and no extra crap blowin on my vid card.

edit: yes i know only half the fan fits over the heatsink but it seems to work great for me.

Hey anyone here with Q9550 at 4GHZ and what are your settings? 3.825 is not that hard but damn 4 GHZ is near impossible for some reason.

Could you post a pic of this? finding it hard to work out how to do it, got a pair of 8800GT's in SLI and a Zalman 9700 CPU cooler so I don't get how to make it fit.

Well i got a Tuniq Tower that is pretty big, no clearance problems:

(old pic)

*EDIT* an aftermarket NB 80mm fan should *just* fit with my HSF.

I have the 750i FTW with not a Q9550, but a Q9650 and 4.0 Ghz is easy as can be.. I've been running that since the first hour I installed the baby. haha

I've managed to hit 4.205 Ghz on mine, but that was the first night I had it. I've yet to try and go higher, but I'm sure I can. you should be able to hit 3.9 ghz or more with your Q9550 man.

is it the E0 stepping. also make sure your adding some fsb/vtt voltage.. thats important while clocking quads.. I'd put it to 1.4v
oh and the pencil mod might help you hit that mark. I never could get my old Q6700 to be 3.7 Ghz stable, until I did the pencil mod. then it was.

I'll have a play around but im assuming you mean to put the fan between the graphics card and the NB?

You replace the EVGA fan that is on the NB.

Could somebody please explain the GTRF (probably wrong, lol) lanes, and how I should go about changing them?

I had it Windows stable, but two cores would fail Prime;

Give this a read

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=...55697;

Long story short though

Quote:
FOR QUAD CORES:
Lane 0 is for Core 0,1 Data Bus (die 0)
Lane 1 is for Core 2,3 Data Bus (die 1)
Lane 2 is for Core 0,1 Address Bus (die 0)
Lane 3 is for Core 2,3 Address Bus (die 1)
Quote:
Boot into Windows (assuming you can boot into Windows) and start a prime95 torture test.
Watch the cores fail...
For quad cores:
When the failure is on core 0 or 1, increase GTLREF on lanes 0 and 2.
When the failure is on core 2 or 3, increase GTLREF on lanes 1 and 3.

Havn't really seen many people have much success with them, although they helped me get stable.
