The system either reboots or freezes. I've tried upping voltage and lowering FSB but it still seems to flake.

Do you guys have any ideas on what I can do to increase stability?

also: how important is it to maintain a 1:1 fsb/mem ratio?
Ive tried his settings too....

each cpu is diff, some dont make i to 3.6
Ive even went as far as 1.525v and still didnt work...

But like posted above, go into your control panel and fill out system...

Hi guys thanks for the replies.

I have updated my profile with my system, I managed to get Prime95 to run stable without errors for over an hour with the following settings:

450 X 8 = 3.6
vcore = 1.4875 (had fatal errors with cores in prime95 upped it until errors went away)
cpu fsb = auto
memory = auto
fsb = auto
spp = 1.5
timings = 5-5-5-18 1.8v

BIOS:

disabled C1E and all that crap, spread spectrums, etc, followed the info in the guides here and http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ing-guide.html

it seems that when I up my ram voltage to 2.2 and change timings from 5-5-5-18 to 4-4-4-12 and sync the ram so it runs at 900 mhz the system becomes unstable.. why is this? I thought the ram is rated to run at those speeds according to epp

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

I just changed my timings to 4-4-4-12 2.2v synced @ 900mhz 1:1 and it *seems* to be running stable now (maybe the vcore change fixed it? I was running a tad lower before) Prime95 still running no errors.. I'll keep you updated.

looks like u got something going

I wouldn't leave CPU FSB at auto, however... could lead to instability. I would also manually set the RAM voltage based on crucial spec, just to be safe.

Sounds good, also on page one there are some voltage settings alot of us are using...

NB & FSB are good ways to help stability..

And if your changing ram settings try it 1 at a time.... ie: leave timings alone and try linked/synced or visa versa try cas 4 2T and leave it at auto and 800 (400x2)..

Just some suggestions..

PS: I did the pencil mod, Bios 1.45v - Windows idle 1.42v - Windows Load 1.39v down to a .03 vdroop under load.... testing now, temps a bit high tho, looks like I need to reseat if im going to try for 3.6.... damn, im waiting til the AM

I think we have the same ram, they are rated to run at 2.2v according to crucial's website so I think I'm okay there.

FSB voltage in BIOS while on auto was 1.4, setting it to 1.4 caused my pc to freeze when I started Prime95, how high can I safely go? I see the norm is 1.4.. I'm at 1.45 right now and letting Prime95 run (no crashes, but just started)

Thanks.

EDIT:

went to walk my dog, when I got back home my pc had rebooted. not sure what to do now other than up my fsb voltage to 1.5?

EDIT2:

so I set my FSB back to auto, and now it won't boot into windows, just keeps rebooting, ***?

x9 multi will allow you to lower the FSB to 1600 for 3.6, therefore possibly not needing the excess voltage there...Also it will put your ram at normal speed of 800 when linked/synced

But as you can see in my sig, not all Q6600 will do 3.6, I have settled for 3.4 as of right now. Maybe try my settings, 8x multi, 1700 (3.4), and bios voltages - cpu 1.45v - FSB 1.4v - SPP 1.5v, see if you are stable there, if so, move to 1750 (3.5) and try again...if not, try 1.46.
I have tried 3.6 @ 1.525v and it failed in under 10min, its my cpu, just doesnt want to run that fast.

RED indicates areas of concern, 1.78v and only 3.66? I would think you could get 4.35 with that

question: why is the normal everest ultimate give extremely high motherboard temp (i got 119 - 129 degree C), but the trial version on this thread gives the real temp (see attached pic)?

Has anyone also tried other cooling options for the northbridge? i took off the fan that came with the board and added a 80mm fan blowing upwards toward the cpu cooler instead downwards towards the gpu.

I'm on core 2 duo and cpu temps are low.

Default question about ram

I am new to overclocking and i had a question after 2 days of trying multiple combos

Does the ammount of ram matter? I bought 4 gigs (4x 1g G Skill 1066 5-5-5-12) of ram and one came DOA so i am running 3gigs right now... i noticed everyone is running 2 or 4 or even 8 gigs of paired DDR2. Is this an issue me running 3 gigs?

Also in the bios i noticed some voltage is red (i assume meaning not to run it at that speed) but when some of my voltages are on auto it autos to a red voltage like the SPP i think autos to 1.4v instead of green 1.3 or 1.35

I have tried multi x8 and x9 with many different voltage settings and fsb/mem combos but nothing seems to be stable. Any ideas/help on getting even a .2-.6 megahertz

I put an 80mm between my vid card and true blowing on the NB..

The new beta version is the actual temp.. should be about 45c

Most of us are running in the red zone.. 1.4 to FSB and 1.5 to SPP, I set my mem to its max spec (2.1-2.2)
Also be sure you have the SZ17 bios it helps with stability...

Even amounts of ram enables dual channel mode, with three sticks your running single channel.. pull 1 out whaile overclocking and see if it helps..

Check out my Guide on overclocking this board and a Q6600
just gives some of the other settings in bios that need to be changed..

Hope this helps a bit..
