Intereseting. I wonder if you somehow damaged windows XP. I'm using it and running at 3.3GHz right now, heats the stop for me not volts.

Thanks, Microsis, for starting this thread, a great idea, love the links.

Extreme: Brother! We have almost the same system, I just might have to grab some decent cooling in hopes of half way catching up to your crazy assed FSB.

Tulfelhuden: thanks for linking memtest. Been avoiding it, but maybe I should check my ram. I wasn't going to bother tightening things up till I got a higher FSB but maybe my RAM is part of the problem.

10acjed! It was your post that got my hopes up, with the link to the SZ17 bios, it helped you fix your hole (1600-1800), but not mine. I blame you for everything!

Anyway!
I've been waiting on a new BIOS to try OCing past 400 FSB, just flashed Z17 and gave it a shot. Still no go.

My FSB clock is at 1600, anything more and I get insta-halt in orthos.

My sig is up to date and my voltages are:
vcore 1.3625
FSB 1.25v - anything more at all and I get blue screen at startup
Mem 2.1
SPP 1.45
nF200 1.3?

My procedure for trying to raise my FSB is:
I first cut my RAM and chip from the equation by lowering my multiplier, to make sure I am not pushing my chip at all, and make sure my memory is low and loose, so it's not being pushed either. (edit: am leaving it linked and synced now, puts it at 800MHz and auto Optimal timings are 4 5 5 18 - my RAM is rated for 1066 5 5 5)

I think that leaves just the FSB all alone being pushed. 1600 clock is stable as a rock, 1625 halts on torture test. I bump up the FSB voltage a touch and I blue screen on startup.

My cooling is stock and things do get hot, but I don't see that as the reason I am failing tests, and blue screening..

I am wondering if I am missing something.
I can't raise my bus speed any more while at 1.25v FSB, and can't raise my FSB voltage without blue screening.

(just re-read that, it sounds like I'm not happy, so: I am happy! This computer has been great, 3.6G has been amazing, no complaints at all. But I've been enjoying learning about OCing and like the challenge. I want to get higher numbers just for the sake of getting higher numbers. Get it? Cool.)

Wouldn't understand that at . . . oh yes I do.

I did a top end run, on this cooling at least, just to run 3DMark96. You know she's running warm when the CoreTemp is 48 at idle.

Will do. Basically i was sitting at my computer or close to it enough to were i could watch it so i wanted to try and bump it up again and watch it there. I tried to goto 3.2 and prime95 locks up in about half an hour or so. So tonight i am going to try either 3.0 for a few hours or maybe start again with a x8 multi. I like the 9 multi so i can keep my bridge temps down but who knows... my temps are doing pretty good right now anyways.

I think so... i had a few registry is hosed errors and it "fixed" them so maybe if i reinstalled xp it would of fixed it too. Moral is for me that the OS can be the culprit just as a bad install or corrupted file or something along those lines.

Thanks again for everyones help.

Now if I jumped off a bridge would you follow me there?

Well Im not totaly at fault, the SZ17 bios fixes the no post issue from 1600-1800... if you fail orthos than its posting....

What voltages have you tried? Also have you ran mem test?

I got a bit random with the voltages after a while, trying a few things out.

-It seems I still have a lot of play left in my vcore, up or down.
-FSB is okay at 1.2, recently had problems with 1.25. 1.3 = blue screen
-Memory is at manufacturer suggested voltage 2.1, meant for 1066MHz though
-SPP cannot be lowered from 1.45 or I get no post. Haven't tried raising it.
-don't know what nF200 is, it's been at 1.3 just to take it off auto which I don't trust so much

Am running memtest right now (will report when finished), but not sure how faulty RAM would mess with my OCing here, isn't it a non factor when I have it set so low? Is rated at 1066 5 5 5, i have it at 800 6 7 7.

Seriously though, this board is just too easy to play with.

If you lower the frequency of your RAM like you have done, you can tighten the timings (which is faster), instead of loosening them (what you've done)

Lower timings = better performance.

for 800MHz try 4-4-4-12.

it may be the ram settings that are causing it to lock up after 30

I ran this setting last night, prime95 ran flawlessly overnight (6 hours):

450x8 1.50v
fsb auto (always seems the most stable for some reason)
memory 2.2
spp 1.55

So then I start to play a game after shutting down prime95, and within an hour it freezes, ***? how can I get it more stable? locking the fsb at 1.4 - 1.5 always causes prime95 to eventually freeze

atm until I can figure out why, im running at:

400x8 @ 3.2 auto
fsb auto
memory 2.2
spp auto

here's hoping these settings dont crash :/

Hello,

I am new to overclocking and was wondering what anyone thought of my stats so far? I have the following
CPU Frequency: 3318.8
CPU Multiplier: 9x
FSB Mem Clock Mode: Unlinked
FSB (QDR) MHz: 1475
Mem (DDR), MHz: 800

CPU core 1.38v
CPU FSB 1.15v
Memory 1.92v
nForce SPP auto (1.40v)
Nf 200 auto (120)

My issue is that my core temps are ranging from 48 to 53 degrees C, and that is a little warm from what I have seen. Is there anything that anyone can suggest to cool things down? Or change to make what I have better. I would like to try to 3.6, but am worried that I will ruin my system. Also, how long does one run Orthos and at what setting to get a good stress test on the system.

Thanks for any and all suggestions,

-TS-
