Prime95 is free software and IMO way easier to use that running 2 instances of orthos and setting afinity to run on seperate cores etc...

Also OCCT tests all 4 cores while monitoring temps and voltages too

Ok so I'm wanting to get the FTW and a q6600. (thanks for all the info BTW).

Now what kinda ram should I be looking at here? 2gigs? 4 gigs?

Any suggestions? Kinda looking at around 100 for the RAM.

Thank you all again.

Edit: I was looking at this RAM. (Link)

Talking I fixed the problem

So it turns out that one of the cores was faulty in the Q6600, so I replaced the chip, and got some NHT Paste, applied a generous, but not ridiuclous glob of it onto the CPU, and Wa-La... My idle temp is down by at least 10 C, and under stress @ 1.468 I am not breaking more than 58 C on all Cores. The reapplication of a little more thermal paste, and the new CPU made a HUGE difference.

Final Stable Settings
Multiplier: 8 x 450 @ 3.6 GHz 1800 FSB
2 x @GB Crucial Ballistix @ 1:1 900 MHz 4-4-4-12-2T
CPU: 1.468V
FSB: 1.4V
Memory: 2.2V
SPP: 1.5V
NF200: Auto

As long as it doesn't break 60 C, I am definitely going to save these settings.

Thanks for all the help and useful commentary.

I wonder if this is why I couldn't get my board to be stable...

Tonight at stock settings (reset cmos, only disabled hd audio), my pc was crashing every other hour until finally it just shut off and wouldn't post again, I removed ram swapped with other sticks nothing.. I called evga tech support and he had me do the same tests and said without ram it should beep and give an error code of f6.. mine said ff and no beeps means the board is defective and I need to rma it.

Cool :/

let's hope I get one with a working hdd led! Gotta look on the bright side right?

Default FFS It failed at the last moment!!!!

Well, it failed. 2 hours before a full day of testing it bombed in Prime 95. At this point, I am now back to 1.5 V on the CPU Core.

Here's my thought. Could my ram timings be whats holding me back??
They are the Crucial Ballistix, 2.2V rated at 4-4-4-12-2T, and at 8x450 you know they will be running at 900 MHZ in 1:1. So, maybe if I up the timings to 5-5-5-15-2T, I will get a better balance???

I REALLY want this 3.6, and I will get it one way or the other.

Also, if I were to run this at 1.5V, full load, @ 57 C, could I use this 24/7??
I know this will age the CPU quite fast, but I should be able to get at least 5 years out it, don't you think??

go back thru a couple pages on this thread or in the ftw OC guide in my sig and see the vdroop pencil mod trick

items needed.. evga 750i and #2 pencil... can be earased so it wont affect warranty either =)

but you may be able to reach 3.6 at current voltages...

but as I said a few times before.... Some Q6600 wont do 3.6.... Sorry, but its not a setting your missing or some sorta tweak in bios, its just each cpu is diff..

If I could, I would.....
Ive tried.....
CPU
1.525v
400x9
450x8
Ram linked/synced 5-5-5-18.... 6-6-6-21.. and up to 2.2v
Ram auto @ 800 and 5-5-5-15
it just wont be stable at 3.6...

Now 425x8 all day long at 1.45bios - 1.43 windows Ram linked/synced 5-4-4-15 @ 850mhz 2.1v

System: Terrapin Station

I'm new to all of this, and am having trouble getting my FSB beyond 1150 without my system becoming unstable (Windows won't load when I get to 1150...I'm at 1148 right now). My specs and settings are below. Any advice would be appreciated.
