So i changed the memory settings to "unlinked" and i have passed 1 hr OCCT (no time for 6 hrs yet . Also uped the voltage to 1.39 in the bois as i saw in OCCT's report that the CPU max vcore used was borderline to 1.39V.

This have me thinking if thinking if my memory settings are or was the culprit. I will test for a longer period when i get some time to.

Thanks for your assistance dude. Much Appreciated.
no prob, and that 1hr in occt is good progress

Hey guys, my voltage for my E8400 @ 3.8ghz is 3.24. Load, it vdroops down to 3.02. Just did the pencil mod. Absolutely no difference whatsoever.

You only shade the one with the blue arrow pointing to it in the picture shown in this thread? That's what I did. I used a 2B pencil... that have anything to do with why it made no difference?

You need to shade a good bit with a 2B pencil. You can also shade on both resistors where the blue arrow is pointing.

what voltage are you talking about, because the pencil mod is for vcore, and the voltage you said is WAAAY out of the range for vcore. your vcore for that chip shouldn't be over 1.365v unless you are on water. you are saying your voltage is 3.24? are you looking at the 3.3v output from you psu? download cpuz then post what it says your core voltage is, that will be you vcore that is adjustable in the bios.

oh wow I failed... Sorry, I was meaning that the voltage was [B]1/B].34, not 3.34, sorry.

Also, i just tried some more overclocking, and I have no idea what is going wrong now. No matter what I set the fsb or voltage to in bios, even though it says the new core speed from the new fsb, in CPUZ is says my core speed is 3.798.

No matter what I do to the fsb or bios, even setting the fsb back to normal, so it is at 3ghz, CPUZ still says it is 3.798. Everything else in cpuz changes, like the voltages and ram timings etc, but the core speed does not.

right-clicking on my computer shows the core speed at 3.9ghz, even when its clocked down to 3ghz... any idea whats happened here?

Although, anything above 4ghz and it hangs during loading the desktop. Which is strange seeing as i've had it a 4.2ghz @ 1.4v

any ideas?

hmmm... you could try clearing the cmos via the red button on the bottom center of the mobo then go back in and set your oc back up. also do you have speedstep and C1E functionality? those will have your mobo throttle down the multi when your cpu isn't under load. those are the only things i can think of so far. hope that can help.

for overclocking should "cpu fast read" be on or off? Also I have my mem freq at 1066 but under it, it say that its realy only 1059? How can I get it to 1066 do I just need to up the freq a little? Timing is at 5-5-5-15 at 2.11v

i don't believe it matters. as for the ram freq it is at 1066, it just fluctuates like your cpu freq does. there is no reason to up the frequency. at the boot page your ram should be displayed as 1066.

Im back

2050QDR 750i is going to test its mettle against a Q6600 in my latest build upgrade, I will be attempting a casual 3.7ghz overclock in the Q6600, temps allowing I might go further. I am interested to see how the memory controller handles the DDR2 1066, I may have to underclock it to get my desired CPU speed.
