Ok, I recently bumped my OC from 3.0Ghz to 3.2Ghz. Before I get into my issue, I'll list my info:

-750i w/ Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz
-via 1600Mb FSB (400*8)
-8GB DDR2 OCZ SLI RAM
-@ 800Mhz w/ 5-4-4-14-2T

VCore - 1.468v
FSB - 1.40v
RAM - 2.00v
nForce SPP - 1.45v

Now, I have done the Vdroop pencil mod and as I type this, my CPU voltage in Windows sits at 1.432v. And of course, when I put some load on my system, it crashes.

First of all, IMO I already have to run Vcore higher than most people just to stabilize. I'm not sure why though. Maybe because of the 4 DIMMs of RAM? Second of all, would I be wrong to say that my system crashes most likely because of the Vcore dropping under load?

If I am wrong, then should I look at bumping SPP to 1.50v or bumping the FSB to 1.45v? Currently my temperatures are fine. I'm in the low-mid 30's with my S1283 Dark Knight kicking ass and taking names. I love this cooler. But I just want to know why I have to run such a high Vcore compared to most others.

Also, should I retry the pencil mod? Maybe I didn't get enough on the resistor? But I have read that if you cross it off too much, it will have a negative effect. Any truth in that?

I would start by taking two sticks of ram out.

Then try bumping all 4 gtl lanes to +50

Currently I have all of the GTL Lanes set to auto and I believe the Lane 1 (the second one down) is currently at 110mV. So:

GTLREF - Lane 0 - +50mV
GTLREF - Lane 1 - +160mV
GTLREF - Lane 2 - +50mV
GTLREF - Lane 3 - +50mV

I was reading the link you posted about GTL Lanes, but honestly, I try to feel good about myself knowing a bit about PC's and overclocking but lol, that ****'s in a different language.

I definitely want to familiarize myself with it though because the OP in that thread said that he had a build running stable w/ 1.2v FSB with optimized GTLREF lanes compared to a 1.4v FSB before he optimized the GTLREF lanes.

Also, any idea of why I must run a higher-than-average Vcore to stabilize?

I love GTLREFF lanes, they filter out the voltage noise, and in turn lets you lower your FSB VTT and could get you past that fine line between stable and unstable.

Higher than average depends on the chip, not every chip is the same you know.

Its basically a calculation of noise ratio usually 83/85% and thats your rough "beginning lane voltage"

Lower your Vcore and proceed with Prime95

Test all your cores until one fails, back out into BIOS and raise the lane voltage for that core.

repeat the process until all cores are stable @ the vcore you set.

Remember to not set the vcore too low either.

I agree with this one.....

try it with 2 sticks of ram, if not stable give a bump to the vcore and try again..

SPP at 1.5 is fine as well, I have been there over a year solid now with no issues

also that ram will do 2.1 - 2.2v with no issues (OVP = over volt protection on OCZ ram)

Bah with this heat (I left the AC off all night) Testing my e8400 @ 1800FSB is bringing my E8400 to 65c, and my SPP to 65c as well. Dammit :*(

I'm looking for a bit of help with Overclocking my rig. Currently I have:

Q6600 OC'd to 3.0ghz on a 750i FTW motherboard. I run Vista 64. Core voltage at 1.325v running fine with 4 gigs of Crucial Ballistix RAM( they discontinued this model now, reason for changing)

I just ordered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227377, 8 gigs of this OCZ Nvidia SLI.

Now I'm also going to want to keep my CPU OC'd when I change my RAM. Will it be fine if in the BIOS option I select the Unlinked option and just run the RAM at the stock timings, voltages and Mhz while leaving the CPU OC'd? Or will I have to OC my RAM as well? If I have to OC my RAM what would be recommended for simple OC, 5-5-5-15 and stock voltage at 900mhz?

I'm pretty new to this and if anyone would like to give me a breakdown of specific voltages/timings as far as Vcore/SPd/FSB volatges all of that for my simple OC setup that would be great.

Any help at all is appreciated and I thank you for your time.

thought OCZ SLI sticks arent really worth $51, i would have gone with something better, but thats just because of my experience with OCZ ram.

they tend to not stick @ their rated timings and will barely hit 1000 MHz

Running unlinked is fine, you loose a slight bit of performance because nVidia chipsets love certain FSB Dividers.

If you Overclock your ram 5-5-5-15 should be fine, maybe 5-5-5-18.
