Running unlinked is fine, you loose a slight bit of performance because nVidia chipsets love certain FSB Dividers.

If you Overclock your ram 5-5-5-15 should be fine, maybe 5-5-5-18.
OCZ are like most companies. It's not really that their ram is bad. It's the fact that you rarely know which kind of ram module they are putting on any model at any time. I've got some D9GCT sticks from OCZ and they OC great, but the same Flex II's I've seen others end up with Promos chips. Just depends on how lucky you are.

On another note, yes the OCZ's are good @ stock speeds and timings (once you set them to factory timings), but before I did this OC, I had 3.0Ghz (333.33*9) and my RAM was set to 900Mhz w/ 5-5-5-15-2T timings. I tried bumping the voltage to 2.1, loosening the timings, and going for 1000Mhz. The computer had a freaking piss fit.

So I'm glad I have a nice 1:1 linked/synced FSB/RAM and I'll keep it that way. Maybe it's my 4 DIMMS, but let me tell you... it's not the best RAM for OC'ing. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Hello everybody. I'm trying to get my q9550 stable at 3.4 Ghz and was wondering if an SPP of 1.50v was safe since the 750i lists it in the red? Anything under an SPP of 1.50v causes hardware failures in the Prime95 blend test but not in the Small FFT test so I'm assuming that means the RAM needs 1.50v on the NB to stay stable at 3.4 Ghz.

I've got 2x2 gb Corsair Dominator DDR2 running unlinked at 1066 5-5-5-15 2t at 2.1v. I tried running the memory linked at 1:1 but BIOS wouldn't even POST and I had to reset the CMOS.

My other setting are: vcore: 1.25000 vtt: 1.20 spp: 1.5 NF200: 1.20

Thanks for the help.

Well I'm really only trying to OC the CPU and not the RAM, but if you have experience with it running at around 900mhz linked when you OC to 3.0ghz I may just let it do that, timings at 5-5-5-15-2t. I can live with that, like I said, I'm just doing some small OC, nothing special.

don't think you need that much spp v for 3.4GHz. try kicking the vcore up a couple notches and try upping the fsb v a notch. i didn't need that much spp till i was working on 4GHz.

you can also try tweaking your gtlref v lanes to get stable. here is a link all about them. pizzaman posted it a page back.

It really depends on the board. Boards are like CPUs, some OC better then others. I'm currantly at 3.375Ghz 1500QDR and I need 1.5v SPP. The wierd thing is that SPP never goes above 56C according to Everest Ultimate. Though, I've come to the conculsion that I have a bum board. When I had my e8400 the board refused to post above 1859. Seems the 1866 strap is broken or something. Upgraded to the FTW BIOS and still no luck. Gonna disable two cores and try again after more GTL twaeking.

I'm stopping here at 3.375Ghz and 1500QDR for a bit and I'm going to scan the GTL lanes again, this time one lane at a time, then try pushing further again. As noted in the EVGA thread, the GTL area gets smaller as you increase the FSB. So 50 on all four lanes might work for a while, but at some point more tweaking is needed.

Here are my settings so far:

1500QDR 9 multi 3.375Ghz
vCore 1.376v (CPUz with no vdroop) Been able to keep it pretty low so far.
vFSB 1.32v
SPP 1.5v
MCH 1.6v (just set it there, could be lower)
HT 1.3v
PLL 1.6v (not really sure about PLL as it's new after the BIOS upgrade. default is 1.5v)

GTL
lane 0 +50
lane 1 +50
lane 2 +50
lane 3 +50

yeah i was thinking his board could just need it but it just seemed like alot for a 400fsb. maybe i just got a good board. i don't know. but hopefully your board only needs positive gtl adjustments to stay stable and not negative adjustments that would be unfortunate. but good luck with all the tweaking. i remember how tedious that stuff was when i was working on getting 4GHz stable.(must of done like 50 restarts each with a stress test). yeah so hope you find where those lanes need to be.

Thanks for the help I'll try fiddling with the GTLREF lanes and post my results when everything is stable.

well with stock FSB and voltages, I am chillen with my new Q6600 at 48c under P95 small FFTs. I am going to start overclocking now, gonna make a spreadsheet (of course) as I do it. Will report back with results.

Edit: For some reason everest isnt showing the CPU utilization of cores 3 and 4, even though all other programs recognize it. Should I reinstall everest?
