Here is my pencil mod experience I would like to share..

1. Prepare a standard pencil.
2. Sharpen the pencil with a pencil sharpener
3. Thrust the pencil on a hard surface until it blunted
4. Apply the pencil on the target resistor(s) with moderate force.

Just a FYI. The pencil mod will wear off in time, its a slow process but keep an eye on it. If you find your system becoming unstable check it before pulling your hair out and looking for new hardware like I did

Brush-on Electrical tape works well at protecting the graphite. Pulls off nice and clean to.

It's my new favorite tape.

hey guys i got a couple of questions(again lol )

1.when i did the vdroop mod...how come i still get like about .5-.15 voltages lower still?(and btw my BIOS is set at 1.3V and when i go to cpuid it shows as 1.248)and also i am on 3.0Ghz(im starting fresh)and like when it is on load it goes from 1.248 to sometimes 1.240 and sometimes 1.232....

2.Is it REALLY REALLY important to update to the latest BIOS?(which idk which ones are...can you guys tell me which one is the latest/last BIOS update?)because i think i heard people say you have to update your BIOS because it is important

3.What is the usual FSB limit? i heard that 450FSB is the limit but sometimes someone can go higher(idk if my can)

thanks

1. You will still have a drop from BIOS to windows. ~.02v

2. I think BIOS updates are important. Board makers sometimes fix issues that may cause instability.

3. Most 7 series mobos will do 1800QDR easily. Though, some may need to tweak the GTL lanes to even get that far. The FTW versions with solid caps seem to go a little further.

WARNING vdroop pencil mod users!

This is a heads up! I was just recently hit with some instability a couple days ago. Been working on narrowing down the issue. I think I've just found it. I've been just glancing at CPUz for voltage and when I've looked everything seemed fine. Though, just now I caught a glimpse of CPUz saying 1.95v so I opened CPUID Hardware Monitor and let it run for while I ran Linx. Here's what I saw about 20mins later when I came back. Min 0.0v and max 2.0V I've erased the vdroop mod and now I'm testing again. So far I'm 30mins into Linx and getting just normal vdroop. No huge spikes or drops. Hopefully, this hasn't degraded my CPU. I'm going to run more test and I'll update with my results about the condidtion of my CPU in a couple days.

So, if you are using the vdroop mod I suggest you open harware monitor and make sure you're not getting the same issue. If you would please update with your results with your vdroop mod.

If you could, open hardware monitor and see if you're getting the same thing. It might just be my board. I'm pretty possitive it's the vdroop mod, but I know my board wasn't doing this a couple weeks ago.

I'll check it when I get home Pizza...

Looks scary, but could it just be a misread? A spike of .4 -.5v is crazy.

I saw the reading in CPUz as well as hardware monitor. After removing the mod I'm getting normal vdroop and no huge spikes. This .05v vdroop blows though.
