I am basically a noob at overclocking. I have the 750i FTW SLI motherboard and a Q6600 G0 at stock. I have read that you can gain a large amount of performance by overclocking my particular CPU. I would love to get around 3.4Ghz. I will also be purchasing a zalman cooler soon. I just need to know the steps of how to overclock. I know I seem nooby but please help me someone. Or refer me to a website/thread so I can read it and figure it out for myself.

First, go to top of page and go to "User CP" then on the left side of page fill out "Add System" Next - my-750i-ftw-overclocking-guide.html If you have good aftermarket cooling 3.2 should be pretty easy, and yes you will see a significant performance increase.. Rep+ for choice in hardware

Thanks 10acjed. I have added my computer to my profile. and am just going to read your overclocking guide now. Is it best to overclock when I have the cooler installed or shall I do a bit before I get it (like see if I can get to 2.8Ghz or something).
__________________Also I'm quite interested to know how your system runs on Crysis. (If you have it) If you have time could you download the Crysis benchmark tool and do two runs: 1. VERY HIGH DX10 @ 1600x1200 2. HIGH DX10 @ 1600x1200 Thanks!

Well I got my new CPU built. Turned out great. The only thing I am going to say F it on is the raid. Boots plenty fast. Kept causing problems while I was trying to set up so forget it. LOL.

I have them overclocked at 730 Core. Started having a couple of issues. One was iw3mp.exe error in COD 4. Found out it is the realtech sound. Disabled it. Still having issues. I renamed it before the disable to .bak. Tried plugging in the headphones. I have all the updated drivers. I just uninstalled the game reinstalled the game. Just in case that it needed the .exe part since the board sound is disabled.
__________________Now I am getting a physical memory dump crash. I backed my ram down to 1066 and still issues. I backed down to 3.9 oc on chip played for awhile and no crash yet. I was reading about the bios and had my pci spread spectrum still enabled. I read that could cause crashes. So I disabled it and tried ocing again. Started to get physical memory dump crash again. So I slowly backed down again. I am at the 3.97 again. This only happens while playing in game so far. I will test it again and see if it happens one more time. Any suggestions? THEDDLE

You have voltages set to auto correct? definately sounds like voltage problem now... go to page one of this thread and set motherboard voltages manually as we have them. Put your memory at 2.1 and cpu at 1.3v and run OCCT at the 4.097 and see what happens.. if stable go back to "linked" "sync mode" on the memory, it will run at 1100 easy Voltages at auto will not work when overclocking... also have you disabled all the other things i listed in my 750i Overclocking Guide? PS: if its unstable, bump cpu voltage to 1.31, then 1.32 etc.. just no higher than 1.36
