The other problem I had previously was the raid. I gave up. I could not get it to work. Not sure if user error, dell xp window program, or raid hates me. LOL. I hoping with Vista it is easier. EVGA tech support said it was so we will see.

Hmmm well i doubt if you will have any issues with this bios. I have seen others with very similar setups as yours and they use SZ17. I think that the bios was fixed for raid in that version or the SZ1B. cant remember which. EVGA forums should help you out with that though. Best of luck!

I'm pretty sure that SZ17 is the official release and SZ1B is the beta if i'm not mistaken. so i would say that B is the newer one. I am actually running B now and everything seems stable. Fixed my hole in post scores.
i have heard that anything later than these releases will cut way down on your performance
and i know for a fact that many people were having issues running H on vista period. check out the forum on evga's website. the post that shows the download for the bios shows what problems people had with the release as well.

I have been reading that also. I am wondering if my buddy just had the issue due to new cpu. E8600 just came out. May have not known the chipset until newer bios. We will see. Cross your fingers.

More than likely that is the issue. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out!

the issue with installing OS on this board is with memory, if you have an issue, pull all but 1 stick of ram out. once all vista instals/updates are done, put other sticks back in...

Dont know why, but it works... I installed vista 64 with 4x1GB installed.... when I switched to 2x2gb i just left it alone....
Im running OCZ SLI Ready DDR2 800

the SZ17 was to fix an issue with video corruption and a hole in FSB from 1600-1800.. The others after that are primarily to deal with added video corruption, and cpuid's but most E8xxx will be supported as they were made a while back, just held off for release for sales purposes
I only update bios if I am having an issue.... Dont just keep updating bios if your system is OK, just for the reason of an "Update"....

depends on the board, or the ram.. doesnt seem to be a blanket issue, more of a random thing....

The only exception was the ram. I entered in my own setting of 1066. When I left it linked it would only get around 870. Here is what volts worked for me.

CPU Core: 1.35v
CPU FSB: 1.4v
Mem: 2.1v {yours may be different do to your ram}
SPP: 1.5v

I have my ram set at recommended settings. 2.1v 5 5 5 18 2T 1066

10acjed was a lot of help and so was his guide. I was able to get a stable OC at 4.037. I got up to 4.25 but had stability issues. I got the e8500 over the e8400 due to it was only $5 more at the time. Figured why not. Even at $30 you will not regret it.

Hope this helps.

Ya right now I have it stable at 3.9ghz (9.5x410) using 1.344V in CPUZ. I'm gonna try what you did later tonight if I get some time. I havent really messed around with any of the other voltages since this is my first time overclocking. Oh and btw... any one have any good lapping guides? my temperatures are a little warm so I'm considering giving it a go if its relatively safe.

Before i try and hit 4ghz with what you did I just wanna check with everyone to make sure those voltages are safe. I would assume so... but I always like to make sure
