thermal spec of a Q6600 is 1.50v, 1.42v is well within limits... Ive been at 1.46v (Bios) 1.43 (windows) for well over 6 months with no issue.... about time for an upgrade...... trying to save for a Q9650, but may just grab a decent VID Q6700 instead..... or should i wait..... sounds great in theroy.... but who the hell wants to wait

What do you do on your comp that needs quad?

I always do multi applications at the same time. But i am still unsure whether the programs can untilize the other two cores. thats why i'm interested in knowing why its all quad for you and not a faster duo

I run nero vision to encode videos and creat dvd's, its multi threaded. Actually it runs 4 cores at around 75% but i usually set afinity to run on 3 cores and it pushed them to 90%.

Also i run cinema craft encoder to rip dvd9 to dvd5, i do a 4 pass encode which will push all 4 cores...

I also play GRID alot, pretty much every week night and most weekends im online racing. It utilizes quads as well...

For me its all about the Q, 4.0 or better on a Dual sounds nice... But realisticly, the extra MHz is only going to give you a minimal bump in games.. I went SLI for my gaming. Games are GPU dependent.

More and more games/Apps will be utilizing quads as we move foreward in cpu's, Nahelem is 4 cores with 8 worker threads.......

I've found this to be the best bios

Instructions are in the link, best method is burning the ISO to a cd ;]

A vdroop pencil mod will reduce the ammount of Voltage Drop from windows idle to windows load, usually its around .05 .06 meaning you set you voltage to run at 1.36 in windows, and when 100% load its at 1.30 thats vdroop...

down side is called spiking, its what happens when window goes from load back to idle causing jumps in voltages, and if you are at ur cpu limit of 1.36 I dont recommend it because these "spikes" could cause your cpu to get voltage increases above spec of 1.36..

For me i am well below the 1.50 limit so the vdroop mod helped me lower my idle voltages from 1.46 to 1.43 thus giving me cooler idle temps.

Sometimes it helps stabling a cpu at higher clock speeds cause you have more room for voltages, but it didnt help me...

SZ17 BIOS for sure. It's the BIOS that came on my board. Tried flashing to SZ1G and SZ1H, and had nothing but problems. Flashed back to SZ17 and stability issues *almost* disappeared. SZ17 is very stable, and everything seems "zippier" than with the other two BIOS, but I guess that could just be a placebo effect.

One thing that is kind of weird, though, and I know others have seen this as well, but CPU-Z shows my north and southbridge chipsets as 650i SLI. This only happens in SZ17. SZ1G and H both showed up as 750i. Go figure.

Everest will read it correctly, as well as temps..
