Ok so heres the thing: I've been out of the loop for a couple years now as far as new computer hardware/software. What are all these programs you guys use to test temps and performance and all that? I searched for everest and couldn't find a free download anywhere, is that something you have to buy? Are there any other really useful programs that maybe I haven't come across on the forums?

Also, I got my sig rig put together finally and getting a FDC error at boot before going into windows and makes me press F1 every time to continue. I'm not using a floppy disk drive and have disabled it in BIOS, shouldn't it disregard the FDC if its disabled?

Everest Free Edition

Core Temp

CPU-Z

first off set removable as 1st boot device in bios. then in advanced tab you will see a "save profile" setting under that save as profile 1 and hit F10 to save and exit. The F1 - Del screne should be gone when booting...

2nd. Looks like you are using the stock intel cpu fan, not good for overclocking. these chips run hot n need some cooling...

Id suggest an arctic freezer 7 pro. Or the thermalright ultra 120 extreme, but you need to pull your motherboard out to install it and need at least 7" clearence from your motherboard to side case..

Temps on a Q6600 GO rev should never be above 70c on a B3 rev its 62c
Voltage should never be above 1.5 on either.

Next is settings (most on page 1) and read thru the rest I have posted what else to disable..

And finally follow the Intel CPU Overclocking Guide

Well actually I have a tuniq tower (which doesn't allow me to close my case), just didn't update it in my sig.

I also have HD as boot device, floppy isn't in the line-up at all. I already have windows installed so I don't need the removable storage as a boot device.

Ahh tuniq then your good to go... did you save the profile in bios? I know the screen your talking of when it posts and the bottom of screen says "press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup" and I only get it when i forget to save a profile in bios....

heres some other settings.

c1e - Disable
intel speedstep - Disable
CPU Spread Spectrum - Disable
Disable smart fan and leave all fans at 100%

lock cpu voltage at 1.325 - FSB an NB set as listed in page 1 here. and set mem to default freq and timings.

increase FSB to 1333 set ram at linked mode. save profile and exit. run OCCT 2hr cpu test.

if it passes you have successfully OCd ur cpu to 3.0 if it doesnt add a touch of volt to your cpu (1.35) but 1.325 @ 3.0 should be fine.

Ok thanks, I'll make the changes when I get back from work.

Also, is it Intel that doesn't recommend vcore more than 1.5v or a general consensus among overclockers?

Got EVEREST installed and it's giving me 84*C on the mobo. However I don't know how reliable this is because when i first ran the program, it said i am using an unknown motherboard.

So it may not yet be fully supported by EVEREST...? 84C is hot.. lol

Yes, 1.5v should be your MAX vcore (at least on air) for the Kentsfield chips

Anything higher is in the danger zone
