Disable Speedstep and C1E in your BIOS.

Xye,

I had both so I feel I can comment on this. I accidentally destroyed the P5N-D socket pins. I liked the P5N-D as it was an okay board. I was not very happy with the OC potential with quad cores. I could take a Core2Due a long ways, it just struggled with quads.

I decided to go EVGA, they had quad problems too, but EVGA appears to listen to customers, ASUS meh. I can't get through the RMA line to see if I can pay for a new socket to be put into my old board. Overall I am very happy with the EVGA 750i FTW. It has issues as well, but I feel like EVGA is looking at them, where as ASUS not so much.

So I would suggest the EVGA 750i FTW over the P5N-D. 6 pahse power versus 4, higher OC potential etc.

On the EVGA forums a bunch have reported this oddball temp as well as the 12v showing as 7 to 8v. Mines the same.

Do you have Speedstep enable. Start OCCT and then start CPUID and see if it increases, if so you have sppedstep (think that;s rght) enable instead of disabled in the Bios. Also, I am using SZ17 which has allowed some bench runs of 4.0 GHz, 3.6 stable on Q6600's.

As Dawgdoc and Tufelhunden have said, disable Intel Speedstep.

This is an Intel "feature" that reduces your multiplier/voltage when ur CPU is not in use...

Just read that Everest has a new program out which reads our board correctly. I am at work and doing this on the phone so I can't test. However, it supposedly is Everest Ultimate Beta 4.50.1372
