Default Evga 780i really that bad?

I just got my evga 780i today. I had a lot of trouble when installing Vista. It keeps crashing on the windows loading green bar. 5 restarts only one can load in windows. I try to play video thru windows media player without installing and codec and driver for my 8800GTS. It keep lagging the audio and video does not match. After I install all windows updates and new hardward driver, it seems running well. But I couldn't get my Q6700 running @ 1600FSB and x8 mulitplier. I tried vcore @ 1.38 and 1.4, but wouldn't work. Any suggestions? Is it my PSU.

Here are my spec
CoolerMaster eXreme Power 650W
Evga 780i
Q6700
2x2GB G. Skill DDR2 1000
3xHDD
1x SATA Optical Drive
6x120mm Fans 1x200mm

Or Do I have the board that have problems overclocking.

I'm been watch movie full screen 720p for like an hour without any problem, but without the GPU Driver, the video lag. Does it has the video bug like other ppl? I heard some people has the board that can't overclock will it be fix on P05 bios? I heard it is coming out this week, is it true?

Thanks in advance.

I think Its because you are trying to install vista with 4GB RAM on an nforce board especially.

Install with 2GB, update with hotfix which can be found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777

Turn off, DO NOT RESTART. Then add the other 2GB and hey presto! It should work.

As an alternative, remove your overclock and try.

I had the same issue with 4gb ram on the 750, pulled one stick then it worked.

Currently running x64 now. GL

Install the patch anyway with 2GB in and then turn off and put other stuff in.

As for overclocking... You probably need more volts or something to get 1600FSB.

Honestly, your chip has a 10x multi, now use it.

I notice you said u cant get 1600 FSB on your 780i, try doing a Pencil mod on your motherboard, i used to run my Q6700 at 3.6 ghz at 1.48v, after pencil mod, i run it at 1.42, at 1600 FSB 9x multiplier.. i need 1.44 volt (3.6ghz)

at 1520 10 multiplier (3.8ghz) i need 1.46, if it was before i did my vdroop, i probably have to add 0.07v core voltage in my BIOs, the vdroop are high on these boards.

Both my 8800 GTS died. Saving up for 2 more GTX260.

Turns out, both my 8800GTS 512 is alive, just bad memory from the OCZ reapers, causing me to remove my graphic card to boot up.

Have you updated the BIOS to the new P4? If not goto...

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=301252

It helped me out. Also read the forums for the bug with video. I don't have the bug but some do. Hope it helped.
