hmmm..the foxconn and the abit look decent...though i am aware of the respect that DFIs get here, i've kind of ruled them out, i've heard of the x38s having some OCing trouble and a complicated BIOS. Me being an OC noob, i'm not up for that.

I have a biostar sckt 478 board, and the AGP slot is sooo sensitive if you touch the vid card while it's on it'll kill the output, and I have to restart it. So those are my experiences with both companies.
I appreciate your warning, I'll be careful, and am looking at the foxconn right now.

I haven't ruled out either the MSI or the Biostar yet, and still appreciate any advice...

the foxconn, while it looks good on paper, seems to have some outstanding flaws.

I'm looking at the ABIT, but, like i said, haven't ruled out the MSI or the Biostar.

The Biostar looks like a nice board. I owned a T-Force 570 Sli, great board.

I got my eye on the Gigabyte p45, gonna be popular, plus it is cheaper than the Biostar on Egg right now.

I wouldnt personally go with the MSI...I've had some bad experiences with then...had 2 of there boards die on me and have never went with them again. I like biostar so I would go with them, although the Abit isnt a bad board either. your choice...which ever you like better

alright, i'm about to rule out the MSI, and have already ruled out the Foxconn. The ABIT looks OK, but not spectacular.

Can someone run me thru how much of performance impact i'll suffer with only x8 x8? This Biostar is growing on me.

I realize that Asus is a fine brand, but (and it may not be a sound decision) I would like to branch out in my manufacturer expertise. In addition, I would prefer an X48 or P45 chipset, though I understand that there's virtually no difference between the X38 and the X48...

still welcoming advice...

If I had to choose between the Foxconn and the ABIT, i would go with the abit...but that P45 chipset is oh so alluring...

some one help please

well i cant give you a performance impact between 8x and 16x but from 4x to 16x my 3dmark score went up about 3k...so pretty big difference...also about a 10fps increase in crysis. so maybe something like a 5fps increase in crysis 16x over 8x. just a guess though.

Now, you're talking about with a single card, right?

If I were to crossfire two 4850s, would it really make a difference @ x8 x8? how much of a performance increase would I see over one 4850 @ x16? I realize this is all speculation, but all help is appreciated.
