i would stay with a 16x 16x board. and in some reviews they put the x38 being about 1-3% faster than a x48 board

i would get this:
__________________http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128344 GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R, since the gigabyte P35 was SOOOO good, i think they would make a very nice P35, and it costs less than the biostar, its $150 EDIT: the difference between X38 and X48 is X48 "officially" supports 1600fsb, the X38 only "officially" supports 1333FSB, i would still go for a x48 instead because they can probably attain a higher MAX Fsb speed, since they are newer and probably just better binned X38's

it should be a fine board. edit: all reference boards are pretty much the same, so IF its a reference board (but it might not be) itll be pretty much the same as all other reference p45's, either way, it should be fine, if not, RMA

So I think i'm going to go ahead with the MSI, but someone remind me of how newegg does motherboard RMAs, in the case I have to...is it that you can get a different one of equal value or what?

Biostar makes great, inexpensive AMD boards. Never tried any of their higher-end offerings, though.

does the MSI have dual 16x lanes? if not and the biostar does, get the biostar, if theyre the same, get the msi or a gigabyte if you can, as long as its dual 16x. btw, 8x pcie-2 is the same as 16x pcie-
