Default The Lesser spotted Asus P5K3 boards

hi all

I have a small bios problem

I am seeing the asus board not accept any ratio except 10 ,
if I put the ratio to 9 or 8 the board refuses to see it and comes up with 2.16ghz and overclock failed , I have reset the cmos and it still happens ,
is this a sign that the mobo is faulty ??

cheers

edit
occasionally it works and I got it running 450x8 on a 1.4vcore 2 hour occt no problems
just managed to get it to see 456 X 8 on 1.4125vcore as this is the same as 366x10 and running primeon it over night ..........if it doesn't reboot

edit - edit

ok it froze after a few hours , rebooted and came up with invalid overclock settings

so I have unplugged taken the battery out and gone to work ,
I am going to replace the battery and reflash the bios just to make sure I haven't any corrupt NVRAM and see what happens ,

anybody seen this or got any other hints ????

Have you tried a lower multi and otherwise everything stock (resulting in underclocking your CPU)? If you only have tried this with an overclocked FSB, you simply might need a slight bump in your NB voltage.

Hi
thanks for that ,
but it is a deffo bios problem ,
as you can't even change the date without it doing this ,
it seems to happen when ever you take the multiplier off the max for that chip ,

for my q6600 it was anything under x9
ie 420x8 etc
for my q6700 it is anything under x10

I have found this solution

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...cking-bug.html

and I will see it if works tonight fingers crossed
you would think ASUS would get this right !!!!!!

finding so far are using the q6700 which has a standard x10 mulitplier

If I use a x10 Multplier ......no problems with bios transaction booster can be set to auto, enabled or disabled

if I use a x9 Multiplier ....it will not accept bios changes until transaction booster is disabled , then I can change anyother setting , save bios and reboot no problems.

if I use a x8 (or lower ) the bios will not accept bios changes and on saving bios and reboot get a 2.41ghz overclock failed press F1 to enter setup .

if I save the settings to a profile then turn off pc , reset the cmos , turn on pc with default settings, load the x8 profile save bios and reboot it accepts the changes .

it accepts this bios long as I close and shutdown the machine correctly ( i.e not use reset or have a occt or prime crash reboot) .

if I have a crash reboot it will not accept the current bios .
also if I try and change that bios i.e turn on legacy usb support , or change the time
on the save and reboot i get overclock fail press f1.
