What's your budget?

If you want to be sure to run for four years, I'd go up to the Rampage Extreme and DDR3 RAM. But you're going to pay through the nose for it.

i dunno what to do at this point, i feel for 1500$ i should be able to build a pc that will at least serve my needs for maybe 4 years. but i am new at building pc. it doesnt have to super uber obviously, but have some staying power in terms of newer games.

a quad that is overclocked will be sufficient for a good amount of time. And this board will run quite well with a pair of 4870's in crossfire. I've scored over 24K in 3D06 that way. I'd say that with the exception MAYBE of the video cards the rest of the system should be sufficient for the next four years.

So I love my Rampage Formula. Gaming on it is awesome; stable as a rock, but I have the need for more power Is it worth it to upgrade to a Rampage Extreme, or should I wait to see what the i7 has to offer.

Why not get a second 4870x2 instead. It would improve your fps far more than switching to ddr3 or even the i7.

On another note, could anyone help me out with overclocking my ram? I set it to 1081 at 450fsb but I left everything else on auto and it crashed on me earlier today.

I have run prime95 for about 10 hrs with the ram at 900 at it went without any problems.
