I've actually had some wierd things happen with the new BIOS. Not with stability, just with saving new BIOS settings. When I press F10 now and save, sometimes the machine will just go into shutdown instead of continuing the boot. Then when I power on the machine again, it loads the new settings and is fine. Does anyone know if this is a setting somewhere that I might be missing?

If it only happens sometimes then you're probably not waiting enough. It should power back on by itself.

Has anyone tried using a different sound card in the slot for the stock soundcard? Im wondering if this will work as my other pci 1x slots are covered by my gfx cooler. Thanks for any help.

It doesn't work. That isn't a complete PCIe slot; just enough to run the included soundcard.

Well technically it's not a riser card not a full sound card but yeah, same conclusion. SupremeFX is just a fancy name, nothing special. Anyone wants decent audio quality/capabilities/performance will have to purchase a good discrete sound card.

yeah I think the top slot is PCIe x1 so its likely you'd need more than that.

Taking the nb and sb off is quite easy. In fact, if I had roomI might consider going with an aftermarket solution on the nb (my sound card limits the space quite a bit).

there are the usual crap thermal "tissues" used. I cleaned off the heads and replaced it with thermal paste.

I also added cardboard washers on the backplate to add torque to the screws.

end result is that under orthos load, temps now do not exceed 55C on the nb. I'm still not happy as my prior P5E X38 ran mid 40's but it will do until I figure out something better.
Do you have to access the back side of the mobo to remove the NB/SB heatsinks? I would like to do what you did and get some good Artic 5 Silver on the heatsinks, but I don't want to remove the mobo, that is for sure!

Also, how are you guys getting the temperatures for the NB? I have HWmonitor, and I don't think it lists the NB temperature.

I have an E8600 @ 4.1Ghz, 10x410. I have little problem getting it stable at this point, but I have had limited success pushing it to 4.2Ghz. My vCore is 1.35, NB is 1.35, Mushkin 1066 memory - 8 GB at 2.1v. I just took the PLL off Auto and put it at 1.3v (just above the minimum). Any suggestions on my voltages?

Actually, I am pretty happy with the setup, my 3DMark06 scores vary from 20,300-20,700, but I am enjoying tweaking it. My CPU is watercooled with a Kandalf case, and it is 37C idle and no more than 58C under extreme load (LinX program). The LinX program pushes the stress much more than small EFT Prime95. Prime95 only pushes my temperatures to 48C.

I will work on my signature with all my system information. Thank you!
