detmem stands for...creatively...detecting memory. One of the things about the newer BIOS's supposedly is that they fix some of these issues. It wasn't major, the computer just refused to post in the beginning with all 4 sticks of RAM in the board. It would stop at detmem, meaning it wasn't detecting correctly. So I pulled 3 sticks leaving the first one in DIMM 0, then restarted, no problem, then shut off, put the 2nd stick in DIMM 2 (dual channel mode) then restarted, no problem, then shut off, put the 3rd stick in DIMM 1, blah blah blah, until they were all in there, I haven't had any problems since. At first I tried two sticks in Dual channel and that didn't work. so I pulled all the way down to 1 stick. Then once I had two in I tried putting the other two in and that didn't work either. I'd be willing to bet that the newer BIOS has addressed and corrected this issue.

Hey, RPIJG. I saw you leave a comment on Newegg and I searched you to here. I have a very similar setup to yours (ASUS Rampage, 4870 x1, 8 GB DDR2@1000). My question is, how the hell are you getting 3dmark06 scores of over 20k? I realize that you are at 3.6 while I'm at 3.2, and you're in crossfire, but I still can't see that making such a huge difference in score. Highest I've gotten yet is 15916. I also get lower SM 2.0 scores than my previous 8800GTS 512. Do I have a bad 4870 or what? Why is your rig getting such a better score? =p

I think you'd be surprised how much of a difference 400MHz will make.

With a single card in 3D06 I had 17K, the second card gave me just 3K more, mainly because the second card really helps more at higher resolution. I don't think you have a bad 4870, I think your CPU is holding you back, also do you have a quad or a dual, that will also make a difference.

Just some quick benchies, I've still got alot of learning to do with this BIOS. I'll get the whole thing faster....just give me some time.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the reply

I'm on a quad core 45nm, Q9450. Not the best for overclocking (low multiplier) but it is fast. I have it at 3.2ghz on air right now (lapped TRUE.) Could get it to 3.6 easy, plan to when I get around to it...

My CPU score beats yours by a bit (actually it usually hovers around 5350), but of course your GPU scores (especially SM3.0) smoke mine. I wonder how you were able to get 17k with a single 4870 while I can't break 16k when our setups are so similar. My only guess is that the CPU score isn't an accurate reflection of how the CPU bottlenecks/affects the graphics card. Since you've got 400 mhz on me but a lower CPU score, I would guess this must be the case. I will overclock to 3.6 today and give this another try. If that doesn't work, I may refund the card. I kinda want the Asus brand anyway, to match my Rampage =p or maybe VisionTek with the lifetime warranty...

Thanks for the info! Will post results later today. *puts on laboratory coat and goggles*

what clock is your card at, I'm currently at the max CCC clocks 790 core and 1100 memory, that might be a bit of it.

My card is OC to 770 core and 1075 memory. Haven't done any testing to find the maxes yet..

Overclocked to 3.6 ghz. Seems stable enough, got through 3dmark06 no problem. Some gains (love the new CPU score):

A gain of a little over 500 3dmarks. HDR/SM3.0 went up 500 points from the CPU overclock. Of course, my SM2.0 score is still ridiculously low. I don't understand why it sucks so bad. Hell, it's even worse than my score at 3.2ghz. I've never been able to get that SM2.0 score again. My 8800GTS got better SM2.0 scores.

Running on Catalyst 3.7 beta drivers. I was using the hotfix previously. Haven't noticed any real difference in scores. Also, since I overclocked to 3.6, I had to drop my RAM to 900mhz from 1000 since I'm at 450 FSB now, and my RAM is rated at 1000mhz. Edit: The crazy thing is, according to Everest, my read and write bandwidth for memory went way up, and my copy is only slightly lower. And my latency is lower of course. I wonder if this has to do with being at 1:1 ratio now. Weird!

Do you have any results saved from when you were running on one 4870?

of course...

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=7451092

I'm hoping you mean the catalyst 8.7 betas and not 3.7 like you typed. The only thing that I can really think of is that you are running in XP x64. I have no idea how well the drivers for xp x64 work. Even with dropping your memory speed, the increase in your FSB probably more than made up the difference in bandwidth.
