the more i read around, the more i read that the new x38 are extremely buggy and having issues being stable over 3.2 ghz, that's what stopped me from getting one. i love my DFI blood, got me to 3.2ghz with one try, with stock volts, but the more i read the more i was scared of the DFI X38, so i straight up stopped reading. hahaha.

go with the ASUS, much easier to plug and play [with oc settings]

If you've got the spare cash for a x48 over the x38 then get it otherwise stick with the x38. The x48 is simply a higher binned chip with different bios options provided by the producer. The asus P5E X38 and maximus formula can both be easily bios flashed to a rampage formula (x48) for free and can be reversed by simply flashing back to the original bios.

Linky

The bios options introduced in the x48 bios are really useful for getting an overclock stable.

New x38? They are pretty old now, and are hugely stable. Many people have fantasic overclocks on x38 boards. I can get 3.8ghz stable without a problem, but temps are too high for my liking with my small rad.

Asus P5E is excellent.

I have owned it and my current X48 board. They provide similar overclocks.

Agreed, the ASUS line of X38/X48 boards are simply amazing. The DFI X38 have not been as rock solid.

I've owned the P5E, built and tested a Maximus Formula flashed to Rampage bios, owned the Maximus Extreme (DDR3) and now own the Rampage Formula. All the boards have been great OCers. With the P5E Deluxe (X48) coming out cheaper then the P5E, it is a sure winner, and can be flashed to th Rampage Formula with minimal bios options to disable, all of which are related to the non existent temp sensors on the Deluxe.
