How to mod an Intel G33 board and Q6600

Q: Whats different from an OEM board and a Licensed Manufacturer's board?
A: In one word, the BIOS . The BIOS settings on an OEM board like the intel DG33 are not as adjustable as a Gigabyte, Asus or an MSI Board. The don't allow you to adjust voltages or explicitly set FSB : DRAM Ratios or change your FSB and other such options.

Q: How can I OC if I can't change any of these....?
A: You can change all of these. Just not through the BIOS.

Q: Then how..?
A: Mods or Modifications allow you to change these settings.

Q: What do I need...?
A: For this guide.... you need a Q6600 GO, A DG33 FB mobo, and Dual channel RAM at 800 Mhz

Q: Where do We Begin..?
A: We start at the Tape mod. This Simply involves taking out your processor. Taping over a certain pin with good quality electrical tape and plugging it back in. You have your FSB at 1333 and your processor at 3.0 on stock voltages and temps. Refer to image for a clearer Idea. What you are doing is locking your BSEL2 signal to high.... so you can use the tape on the processor and open the circuit or use a terminating high value resistor on your board to open it permanently.

Q: Did it....what next...?
A: My recommendation would be to get set_fsb now and tray increasing your FSB till you hit instability.

Q: Okay I hit instability at 3.xx Ghz.... is this the end...?
A: Not even close. Now its time to do the pencil mod and the pin mod. The pin mod increases your Vcore while the pencil mod lowers your Vdroop.

Q: How do I do the pin mod?
A: There is a lotta information available on the web Just look for ECU pin mod and you'll be able to find info. But as a quick guide for those who know... you need to ground your VID pins to get to a Voltage that you want to raise.... I would recommend raising it by 0.05 volts. Mine was at 1.26 and I had to raise it to 1.31 so I got the base line definition from the net and grounded My VID3 pin.

Q: Okay but I'm running into Vdroop Issues... any Ideas...?
A: The Pencil Mod is nothing but adding a little graphite to a certain place on your Mobo for better electrical coupling. This reduces your Vdroop so you should be able to get your Vcore stable... and a 150-200 Mhz jump. I found an Excellent image on the web from nvidia forums. attached below

A lotta people have their quads on intel DG33 boards.... Maybe a few of them will find this interesting ( and rep me ... he he...) and people who are comfortable rolling up their sleeves can save a lotta bucks by going with intel boards... so can a lotta ppl who live in countries where MSI, gigabyte are too expensive or unavailable. hope you found this helpful....or informative at least

the bios on a Gigabyte GA P35 DS3L OEM are no different than the bios on a GA P35 DS3L Retail

OEM is generally from a bundle or batch shipped from the manufacturer for builds, they are usually used by PC shops to build computers for retail sale. Or for upgrade purposes for customers.
When Unused they are put on the shelves at a lower price.
OEM is just the hardware itself, no cables, cords, adapters or manuals...

Your Guide seems to be the difference between and INTEL Board or Asus/Giga/DFI... Which the chipset is the same (P35/P45/X38/X48) and manufacturer are different. Intel Manufactured boards suck at OC. Thats why we recommend DFI/Giga/Asus for Intel chipsets

Hi, I have dg33fb with c2Q 2.4 overclocked to 3.0 with tape mod. Used FSB to get to 3.2, but I don't get the Vdroop mod u have shown in the picture. U r telling DG33FB motherboard, but i searched my entire mobo but could not find where to use the Vdroop pencil mod. Could u post any pic if u have of dg33fb with that corresponding resistor where i could pencil it??
