With 4 dimms it runs in dual-channel mode, yes.
The ratio refers to the FSB:RAM ratio. So if your FSB is 400 your RAM would be 800, which then gets you a dual data rate of 1600 MHz If your FSB is 500, you get DDR3 2000 etc.

This is damn motherboard with all it's like perks and options is driving me and my buddy nuts. We can easily change the multiplier to 12x (QX9650) and increase the voltage and get 4Ghz overclock without touching anything else, but my buddy is feeling ripped off because his memory bus is running at 667Mhz (1334Mhz effective). He wants the the RAM to run at it's rated frequency (1800Mhz).

So, I've been playing around with my RE for a few days now, and am a little disappointed with (what seems to be) my computers limits..
Whenever I push my FSB up any higher I wind up with memory errors in Memtest86+ (increasing voltages don't seem to help, i've gone as far as 1.95 on my ram and 1.5 on the NB with no luck..). So I tried pushing the FSB up to 500, and keeping my ram at the following specs, and even with increase NB and ram voltages I freeze memtest86+ at 31% consistently (note, i do drop my cpu multi to 8.5, so it should be that either).. I thought it might be a temp issue (my nb was running at 52c idle lol) as after a little research I learned that the thermal paste gunk that asus used was under all the standard cooling, so I pulled the whole mobo out, cleaned everything thoroughly, and applied as5. Temps are better now, NB is at 40ish idle. (and because i know your wondering, i'm running an air cooling set up, i replaced the stock coolers on the mobo with the bigger ones that came with it, and i'm using an antec 1200 case with all the stock fans traded out for the 110cfm slipstreams )I've tried everything I can think of, and I was pretty sure I was just at the limit of my ram (with stock settings), but from my understanding, when I push the fsb up and keep the ram and cpu settings the same.. It should yield stable results unless my NB is a dud.. right? anyways, any suggestions would be Much appreciated! ![]() (usually Stable setup, right before i posted this i glanced over and saw more memory errors even under these settings, which have been fine every other time I ran it...): CPU Type: E8600 Cooling: Xigmatek1283 (with 120mm slipstream fan) Bios version: 0501 OS: Vista Home Premium 64bit Graphics card(s): 4870 X2 Memory Brand and speed: Mushkin DDR3 1600 (2x2gb in dual channel) Tweaker Menu Ai Overclock Tuner: Manual OC From CPU Level Up: Auto OC From Memory Level Up: Auto FSB Frequency: 400 CPU Ratio Setting: 10 CPU Clock Skew: Auto NB Clock Skew Auto FSB Strap to North Bridge: Auto PCIE Frequency: 100 DRAM Frequency: 1600 DRAM Command Rate: 1N DRAM Timing Control: Manual 1st Information: CAS# Latency: 7 RAS# to CAS# Delay: 7 RAS# Pre Time: 6 RAS# ACT Time: 20 RAS# To RAS# Delay: Auto REF Cycle Time: Auto WRITE Recovery Time: Auto READ to Pre Time: Auto 2nd Information: READ to WRITE Delay (S/D): Auto WRITE to READ Delay (S): Auto WRITE to READ Delay (D): Auto READ to READ (S): Auto READ to READ (D): Auto WRITE to WRITE (S): Auto WRITE to WRITE (D): Auto 3RD Information: WRITE to PRE Delay: Auto READ to PRE Delay: Auto PRE to PRE Delay: Auto ALL PRE to ACT Delay: Auto ALL PRE to REF Delay: Auto DRAM Static Read Control: Disabled DRAM Dynamic Write Control: Disabled Ai Clock Twister: Auto Ai Transaction Booster: Auto EPU II Phase Control: Auto CPU Voltage: 1.3 Load-Line Calibration: Disabled CPU PLL Voltage: 1.51106 FSB Termination Voltage: Auto CPU GTLVerf (0): Auto CPU GTLVerf (1): Auto CPU GTLVerf (2): Auto CPU GTLVerf (3): Auto NB GTLVerf: Auto North Bridge Voltage: 1.33872 DRAM Voltage: 1.89531 NB DDRVref: Auto DDR3 ChannelA Vref: Auto DDR3 ChannelB Vref: Auto South Bridge 1.5 Voltage: 1.51106 South Bridge 1.05 Voltage: 1.06039 CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled Also on a strange note, one time I pushed my fsb up to 425, let my cpu stay at 10x multi, had my ram at 1900 with 9 9 9 27 timings, and cleared two cycles of memtest.. haven't been able to do that since (also, yes, i do turn it down to 2T timings whenever i try to over clock my ram)

You'll need to start experimenting with GTLs and skews.
Check here for some advice on your Mushkins. I realize it's with a quad, but it's a good place to start.

Be patient. People are slowly figuring out this board and all the tweaks. It's very finicky, but the final results can be awesome.
I'm still waiting for a few more parts to do my LC build so I can start to push this beast.

Okey, now my board is ready for some action.

First Time Build
|
Hi guys first post, with a bit of a problem. Hope you guys can point me in the right direction...
well here goes...started to build my new system and took off the stock cooling to replace the thermal paste on the NB etc that Asus put on (or should i say throw on while watching porn )...Anyway I was obviously very careful at taking the screws out and lifting the heat sinks, however looking at the board I saw this....![]() The resistor has come away form the seating and I can't send it back because I've taken off the stock cooling. I would rather fix this if i can anyway and I have a friend who is gonna take a look at this but wondered if anyone had any thoughts on how best to resolve this issue.... |
