Which memory uses the Micron? I'm using slow Corsair the best I get is 1600. I thinking of upgrading to:Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory.

I have read that people have good luck with these hitting 2000 at less than half the price of the equal spec Corsair.

Here´s a DDR3 ramlist.

Those Patriot are designed for 790i and according to overclockersclub they could only reach 1700 on a X38 board so I doubt if RE could reach much higher.

You are probably better of with those 1600 you have, because those Patriot are CAS 9@2000, not great performance.

Have you tried to run your E8600@500 8,5 4250 and those Corsair@1600 CAS 6 (tRD6) or 7 (tRD7), if you can it should be better then 500 8,5 4250 and RAM@2000 CAS 9

You have a pretty good clock on that chip there, what´s your volt under load to maintain that?

Have you upgrade to those Patriot?

I guess I was wrong about the 0801, it performce better with my gear than the 0403.



I did some tests with 0801 and 400x10 1600 (E8600, 2x1 Corsair Dominator PC-14400 1800C7) and I can confirm that 1600 CAS7 tRD 5 give the same performance as 1600 CAS6 tRD6 but with lower DIMMv and NBv , quite awesome I think.

Not much of a different in bandwidth but in latency and with much higher DIMMv and NBv.


And once again, using strap 200 at 1600 777 21 make it possible to use tRD5 with low DIMMv and NBv and it gives a pretty good performance, quite awesome in my opinion.

Probably I gonna do a similary test with 450 4275 1800 777 21.

Right now I´m working on 475 4275 1900 777 21 Strong tRD6, I got it stable with 200 run LinX, 5 hours Orthos blend and 1000% HCI design memtest but I can´t run Crysis without massive artifacts, weird.

My stock memory setting are the only thing I can run with stability. If I try any thing lower I will not pass tests. Maybe you could suggest other tweaks I should try.

Also I'm using Corsair TW3X4G1600C9DHX which is not the higher end Dominator series you are using.



What games are you playing?

Your setup with 500 4250 1600 CAS9 looks good, maybe a little high latency, what tRD do you run? AI Clock Twister?

What DIMM volt do you run at 1600 999, probably 1,8? If you push it to 2,0 you can try CAS8 or 7 but I don´t know if it worth it.

You don´t gain that much if you go from 1600 CAS9 to 2000 CAS8 if you only consider fps in game, after all you have a highend VGA.

For me it´s for benchmark I push limit and to learn how it works but for game I can settle for 400 3,6 with a dualcore and 1600 CAS9, it´s good enough with a highend VGA.


Games hmmm

I most like games with bit of a strategy, like Tom Clancys Ghostrecon, GRAW, GRAW2, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 and Brother in Arms Hells Highway.

I just love Crysis mostly because you can choose the way to confront the enemy, sneek past them or head on. I´m most the sneek and snipe guy.

Crysis Warhead was a good one, to short.

Far Cry2, lots of option, fun game

CoD MW, CoD WaW and MoH Airborne is okey, to mush rush and gun for my taste.

That´s about it I think


I have bought a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P that I gonna test and see if it´s so good as people say , so my Rampage Extreme have to rest for a while now.


How does that 1001 BIOS work by the way?

Hi guys, well i decided to persevere with my build and have managed to get the system to turn on. Below are a couple of pics of my system setup etc. Excuse the messy cables and the keyboard, (a dell from 1999, cant believe it still works...). I still need to reseat the CPU heatsink as temps are around 48 degrees c in the bios which is quite high for this chip right?





Anyway im now onto the hard part and am looking for some advice as to what to do next. I'm assuming im gonna have to update to the latest bios using EZ Flash but I know that it depends on your setup as to what bios version to flash to.
My specs are
CPU: Q9650
Memory: Corsair 1800Mhz DDR3 Dominators Cas 8
Gfx: Asus 4870x2
Hard Drive: WD Velociraptor 300gb
I'm intending to run Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Anyone got any idea as im a bit confused as to what version to flash to, and this is my first build and i don't want to screw it up!

Also looking for some bios settings for this CPU and Memory for a nice overclock. I've had a brief look at some other people setup but again I've never overclocked properly.

0801 seems to the most stable right now and if you gonna update your bios I recommend you to use EZ Flash 2 in the bios.

Well i flashed 801 to the mobo and then ran memtest for maybe half hour and came back with a load of errors... I have since changed the ram sticks to the white slots and am running a new test to see if it will make a difference. Its 2x2gb sticks so will test each individually if this run goes bad aswell.

@ Ghostleader: I used those settings you gave me but the board wouldn't post. I tried tinkering with a few of the settings but the mobo would power on, then off straight away, then it would try again. Sometimes it would come on but not post. Where would you suggest I go from here? I reset the bios using clr cmos button. Temps are good at the mo, bios reads 25 degrees c for the cpu, it was up to 48 degrees c with the shipped bios, im guessing it had something to do with the flash.

Anyway thanks for your help, much appreciated
