PMFJI but - I am a newbie to clocking but I have a friend who worked on the RE BIOS - he said that unlike the earlier BIOS, the 0801 was designed to reduce memory static and as such uses millivolts to calculate the GTL rather than the multiplier. The result of this is that the values for the GTL with a 45nm chip will always be negative. I am just repeating what I was told and can't really say that I understand it. This only applies to 0801 - don't know about 0901 but earlier used multiplier so would be positive.

I have my RE in for RMA and as soon as I get it back, I will post back re help in clocking a q9650.

Thanx

Many thanks baron! Happy new year too!

I managed to run memtest for a couple of hours yesterday with no errors, by under clocking the memory, which i forgot i had to do. Whenever I touch any of the other bios settings in Extreme Tweaker, F10 Save and Exit, the comp tries to reboot, on and off again several times, and I never get a beep letting me know its got past POST. I have to Clr CMOS and start again. Any idea why this is? Am i missing something?

Hi everyone

Past few hours I read about 60 pages about OC Asus RE and Q9650 and I have still problem with this setup, first my rig :

Q9650
Asus Rampage Extreme Bios V 5.01
Corsair XMS3 DHX CM3X2G1600C9DHX (to tests Im using only 2x2Gb
WD Raptor X 150Gb
Vista 64Bit
1200Wat thermaltake
2 x 4870x2

The problem is I cannot push my CPU to 4.5Ghz and I this can be because of my RAM -(I read that I can go up to 498Mhz max) or Vista blocking going higher, I run my system few times at 498Mhz but system wasnt stable, I can run 495Mhz and do 3dmark06 with nice score , I tryed few setup settings to OC with 500Mhz but system cannot BOT where is this ******* problem ? Few months ago I had E8500 and FSB was far more then 500Mhz and my Ram was above 2000Mhz and system was working perfect so what is wrong this time ? CPU-Z is showing me that max bandwitch for my memory is 533Mhz .... I saw ppl OC Q9650 on win XP without any problems to 4.5 or even 4.9Ghz some of them have Gigabyte mobos some of them Asus.

Anyone can help me with this ?

Thx

Hello,

I need some help with the overclock bios settings. I have an Asus Rampage Extreme (bios 0901), with QX9770, 2x Sapphire 4870x2, and 2x OCZ 4 GB DDR3-1600 (OCZ3P16004GK), Antec 1000W, Western Digital WD3000GLFS 300 GB (VelociRaptor), and Vista Ultimate 64. Anyone have the same hardware configuration? Can you help me? Thank you very much,

Hi and welcome to OCN

If we should be able to help you, you need to be little more specific about what you want.

How do you run today, any OC at all?

What is your goal?

Yourīre welcome

First go to top of the page "User CP", "Your Control Panel", "System Information" and "Edit System" and fill in your system spec, itīs easier for others to help you then.

Since you run 4870X2 Crossfire you donīt gonna get that much increse in FPS in games when you OC. You can compare for yourself between default setup and your highest stable OC later on.

Well, this RE are a tricky board to master and Iīm still learning myself so we have to see what we can do.

Your QX9770 have a unlocked multiple and if you want to start with 4GHz Iīll suggest to start with FSB 400 multi 10 and ram 1600.

Try this for a start

FSB Frequency: 400
CPU Ratio Setting: 10.0
CPU Clock Skew: Auto
NB Clock Skew: Auto
FSB Strap to North Bridge: Auto
PCIE Frequency: 100
DRAM Frequency: 1600Mhz
DRAM Command Rate: 1N
DRAM Timing Control: Manual
CAS# Latency: What OCZ recommend when run 1600
RAS# to CAS# Delay: What OCZ recommend when run 1600
RAS# Pre Time: What OCZ recommend when run 1600
RAS# ACT Time: What OCZ recommand when run 1600

CPU Voltage: ~1,35
Load-Line Calibration: Disabled
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.51106
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.10016
CPU GTLVerf (0): Auto
CPU GTLVerf (1): -40mV
CPU GTLVerf (2): Auto
CPU GTLVerf (3): -40mV
NB GTLVerf: auto
North Bridge Voltage: 1.51097
DRAM Voltage: What OCZ state when run 1600
South Bridge 1.5 Voltage: 1.51106
South Bridge 1.05 Voltage: 1.06039
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled

Intel Speedstep: Disabled

Rest on auto

To test for stability I suggest to use LinX and Prime95 (small FFT) for CPU, Prime95 (blend) and HCI Design Memtest for NB and Memory.

Use CoreTemp or Real Temp to check your temp.

Hi and welcome

Itīs gonna be a bit tricky for you to try some settings, because this is a Rampage Extreme thread and you have a Rampage II Extreme with a Core i7 and thatīs a hole different ball game.

Anyway, good luck with your new rig.

I've just noticed this, but I'll give you an answer anyway, because I've seen people with similar problems that go on for ages.

First of all, update your BIOS. 100x is the latest, tested and best working one.

Second, which is really important - Asus Rampage Extreme is having serious problems with running 2x2Gb at rated speeds; not to mention people trying to run 6Gb/8Gb at rated speeds. Depending on model and circumnstances (luck?), you'll probably have to put lower frequency (<stock), with tighter timings. Check Asus' forum, there are plenty (!) of topics where people complain about not being able to run RAM at rated speeds.

Third, regarding your processor: 4.5GHz is not regarded as a typical aim for Q9650, not to mention 4.9GHz. Check Q9650 Club for some real references. It's not impossible to hit 4.5GHz, of course, it's actually very plausible (depending on your cooling), but I'm just not sure if you have set your aim at the right mark.

Good luck.
