Here you go Chris:

They are not native SATA as part of you SB, but rather a Sil chip:
Quote:
Silicon Image® Sil5723 (Drive Xpert Technology)
- 2 x SATA 3 Gb/s ports
- Supports EZ Backup and SuperSpeed functions
Quote:
Drive Xpert

Without drivers or BIOS setups, the ASUS exclusive Drive Xpert is ideal for anyone who needs to secure data on their hard drives or enhance hard drive performances without the hassles of complicated configurations. With Drive Xpert“s user-friendly graphical user interface, users can easily arrange hard drive backups or enhance their hard drive transfer rates - making sure that data is looked after every moment, every day.

Ericeod is absolutely right. In your case I would just use the red ports. The orange and white ports can be used but require a little explanation. Here is a quote from a Hardware Canucks review that should explain it a little better:
Quote:
The six red ports come from the ICH10R and support RAID 0/1/5/10. The other two are controlled by the Silicon Image Sil5723CNU storage processor, and can be used for RAID 0/1 in coordination with the Drive Xpert feature. These ports cannot be used to boot from unless you enable Drive Xpert Control in the BIOS and select 'normal mode'.
The key thing to note here is they cannot be used to boot from unless you set Drive Xpert to 'normal mode' (in other words no RAID), which in my case made them useless for my RAID setup. Excellent board choice by the way!

Hope they promise that burger...

I think it has something to do with backing up your data. Plug a HDD into that port and start backing up?

i also use RAID (RAID 1) and had problems using the orange/white slots. Using the other 6 intel red slots fixed the problem.
